Q: Mail not working with El Capitan

Made the big mistake of upgrading my laptop to El Capitan as it's filled with bugs.

The biggest problem is that I can no longer receive mail. Yes, I have a working connection, as I'm writing this. It seems none of the accounts will connect to the server. Mail is working on my desktop so I know it's the new install as it worked before the install.

Thanks!

So I wrote a long post here about my experience with Apple and its support, while also questioning their responsibility of the issues that their software is creating. Only to see the post has been removed immediately! How's that in terms of transparency!? But at least it means that there is someone, perhaps from Apple reading this? Perhaps Apple should have their technicians read this forum instead...

What I wrote was that Apple hasn't been able to find a solution for the issues I'm having, where they point the finger at my email provider Binero, who's tried hard to find a solution but everything works perfectly from their end. The emails downloaded perfectly with OS X Yosemite and it works perfectly with Thunderbird. Still Apple tell me that the issue doesn't lie with them. So now I'm stuck with the situation where I have a brand new computer with EL Capitan which apparently according to Apple doesn't have any issues, and an email provider who has bent over backwards to try to find a solution without any luck.

I thought I had a solution yesterday when I removed my account from Apple Mail app, closed it down, opened Thunderbird, archived a lot of old emails from 2010-2012, deleted them from the server, closed Thunderbird and added my account in Mail app again. It worked fine yesterday night, but today it is back to "normal" again. Claiming to download one email which never arrives hence blocking all other emails. The fans are spinning at full speed and high volume while the ram is being eaten...Is this really how a  fully functional Apple Mail app is suppose to work?

For all those who have been told by Apple that they should refer to their email provider - Apple is my email provider and the issues still exist ! so that argument falls flat straight away..

Hi, I noticed that. Your post appeared in my inbox but when I tried to link to it to reply, I got the following 'error'

"Access to this place or content is restricted. If you think this is a mistake, please contact your administrator or the person who directed you here."

What I wanted to say to you and others is:

I don't know whether you saw my previous posts?  Having got frustrated with attempts to 'repair' Mail I have downloaded and installed Airmail beta yesterday: http://airmailapp.com/features

This is working very well so far with no glitches.  Other contributors have recommended Postbox.  It doesn't cure the issues with mail but I hope this helps

Thanks! I will give this a go and "good" to hear that the issue also lies with Apple email users. My previous post was removed by "someone" . It ****** me off to constantly be told by Apple that the issue doesn't lie with them...

Yes indeed.... I work with iCloud email services and all the problems with the Mail app come from my iCloud account...

Using Airmail for the moment and waiting for a Mail Fix...

AirMail worked just fine for me!.  I was able to use the add Google account feature and it did allow me to login to my SSO.  This is what El Capitan will not let me do.  El Capitan does not display the SSO login so that I can complete the Google account setup.  Oh, Apple did tell me that my problem was not an Apple issue.  I'm inclined to believe otherwise now.

Endless annoying issues re Mail - identical setup between all my computers (3 powerbooks, iPad, iPhones (3) and iMac, but each behaves differently wrt Mail.

My last attempt to access this discussion gave me the following response

    Unauthorized

Access to this place or content is restricted. If you think this is a mistake, please contact your administrator or the person who directed you here.

And rather than working to resolve the issues, Apple is blaming everybody else and blocking submissions that it doesn't like, as per my last post:

Thanks for participating in Apple Support Communities.

And more millions are having big problems. Regardless of the numbers, mail is sacrosanct , so it's a very serious issue when mail is buggy and unresponsive. Bells and whistles may be fun, but not at the cost of compromising basic functionality. Time to give Tim the heave-ho and hold him accountable. When the ship is floundering the captain is criminally responsible.

I've now gotten Apple Support to look into my issues again, where I was asked to run a Data Capture. This was the second time I was asked to do this and I tried to run it yesterday. The issue now was that it couldn't finish the capture. The reason for this was that Apple Mail app had acquired log files from the previous four days, amounting to over 71 GB! I had to remove these files manually in order to finalize a Data Capture.

I've asked Apple what it is in these log files and why there are log files amounting to such large files, which is eating up my hard drive space, but I've had no answer. No wonder the fans run full speed, when Apple Mail app is eating up hard drive space and ram memory.

Surely this can't be due to issues with email providers...

Okay everyone... we finally solved the issue I was having with El Capitan not displaying the SSO login screen.

We are using a F5 Load Balancer as a front end to our SSO servers.  It handles all the SSL functions for the servers.  Because of this, the redirect from the F5 was a HTTP request.  This worked fine in Yosemite.  El Capitan required a HTTPS request though.  We changed our F5 redirects to HTTPS and everything started to work.  I was able to finally talk to a support technician at Google who discovered this.

So, after all my complaining, I guess Apple was correct... it wasn't their problem.  They just changed the way El Capitan makes requests.

Yosemite made the internet unusable, slow browsing, eventually crashes, no force quit, couldn't shut down. This problem persists in El Capitan.

El Capitan has now made email unuseable as well. None of the suggested fixes online work for more than a day. Deleting and resetting account doesn't work for more than a few days.

If I could revert to Mavericks I would, but too much time has elapsed and too many of my files are new - old backups from pre-Yosemete wont' help me.

I wonder how much money Apple have cost us collectively? I am sure there is a legal issue here - product not fit for purpose, misleading customers, encouraging them to upgrade  to a product that damages people's businesses. If only we were organised to get together and do something about it....

Shame on Apple, hugely damaging to their reputation and is making me consider the wisdom of sticking with Apple products when they clearly can't cope with the basics  any more.

Big mistake to updegrade to El Caputo! Lose all mail functions!

"Cannot Connect To Server" - Apple Support Stumped. It must be my ISP, because you know, there hasn't been a problem for 10 years, since Tiger, but your ISP is at fault!

iCloud mail works great, isn't that Apple's intention? To ween you off some server mamma and let this Apple be your new mommy?

Really disgusting, a disaster. Makes me want to vote for Trump just to see Apple get kicked in the pants for offshoring all those jobs.

While I have been unable to access my email via the Mail app, I had to use iCloud (which clearly isn't part of the Mail app) via a browser as a workaround.  The way I read it, I believe that this is what is referring to? Since then I have installed Airmail, which works fine.

    ok I see

I'm also forced to use Airmail which works great but is not supported by Daylite app.

This is a great frustraton as the Daylite app (expensive by the way) includes a mail assistant plugin (workin only with the mail app) that I'm not able to use anymore because the mail app is not working ....

I must say that mail works great for a few minutes, when I logout and login again to my iCloud account, but this absurd manipulation includes a huge time machine after effect! Time machine make a new backup of all the new imported emails everytime  you log back in !!!

does anyone try to reinstall a fresh El Capitan version (not updating or restoring) ?
