It sounds like your battery life is less than expected and your Wi-Fi is also pretty slow. If you have tested your Wi-Fi out on another network and it worked fine there then I would start by forgetting your home network:
In iOS: Tap Settings > Wi-Fi >
> Forget this network. Then try to rejoin. If that issue persists then I would next reset your network settings:
Reset your Network Settings. Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This also resets Wi-Fi networks and passwords, cellular settings, and VPN and APN settings that you’ve used before.

From: If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won’t connect to a Wi-Fi network
For the battery life issue that is something that we should be able to isolate to either hardware or software. Start by checking to see if a particular app is using more power than perhaps it should in your Settings:
About the battery usage on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
If nothing seems to be using excessive power then I would next quit all the running apps on your phone:
1. Press the Home button two times quickly. You'll see small previews of your recently used apps.
2. Swipe left to find the app you want to close.
3. Swipe up on the app's preview to close it.
When you have done that force restart the device with the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons and test the issue again:iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. Let us know how that goes!

Jan 6, 2016 7:57 AM in response to kazazic77by sterling r,Thanks for the update! Erasing all Content and settings is not quite the same as an actual restore using iTunes because iTunes will actually reinstall the iOS software which I think is the next best step. This article will help you do that:
Use iTunes to restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings
A common practice is to test out the device when setup as new for a while to see if the issue recurs. If it does not, then restore your backup and test it out again to see if it happens. This will tell you whether or not there is something in the backup that is causing this to happen to happen.
Restore your device from an iCloud or iTunes backup
If it does persist after that, then that indicates a hardware issue and I would suggest seeking repair for your phone:
