Q: My Macbook Pro, El Capitan will not recognise my 30gb ipod classic, but my work windows 7 laptop did!?

My 2010 Macbook pro running el capitan will not recognise my 30gb ipod classic, but my work Windows 7 laptop, once I installed iTunes did!? Great, I thought, I'll reset the iPod to FACTORY DEFAULTS and wipe it and I hoped my Mac would then see the ipod, but NO, not even appearing in Disk Manager. Have now tried 3 or poss 4 leads, one of which is a brand new 'genuine apple' one. This is really annoying. My iPhone 6 works fine, but I want the iPod for when I am running in the rain and to plug into the older stereo on the truck. There appears to be nothing wrong with the iPod itself, though it has had a battery replacement some time ago and has worked fine since. It has never synchronized with my Macbook. I have tried before El Capitan and several times since getting the laptop last year with Yosemite installed.

Obviously I have followed the Apple Support troubleshooting which basically in this instance achieves nothing. I have the latest version of iTunes, recently updated.

Can somebody PLEASE help!? I am obsessed and really want it to work. I love my iPod classic and was going to use it and get the case refurbished. It would appear that historically there have been a **** of a lot of issues like this, has everyone just given up and binned their iPod's in favor of their phones?

Any help would be appreciated. It is driving me mad and I am all Googled out.

Joe

If you have a Mac (the one "running Yosemite") where the iPod connects and does not disappear, you can also try using it to do a Restore on iPod.  That will format it for Mac, instead of the current Windows format (FAT32).  Normally, it should not matter if it's formatted for Windows, but you should rule out that possibility.  Before disconnecting it from that Mac, go to the iPod's Summary settings screen and set it to Manually manage music and videos (if it's not already set that way).  This sets Enable disk use to be ON, which may make a difference when you connect it to the El Capitan Mac.
