Jan 4, 2016 10:41 PM in response to Howmanoidby Randy Kato,Same problem here with a Sharp Aquos. It worked fine until I upgraded tvOS to 9.1. Then it would all work except for turning the TV off. I reset and restarted both the TV and the ATV, turned CEC off and on, and even had the TV find and identify the ATV, but still no luck turning it off.

Jan 9, 2016 7:56 AM in response to Howmanoidby Ndurkee328,I am having this same problem with my Vizio tv. When I have it on ARC only the volume works but it doesn't turn the tv on or off, but when I have CEC on enable it turns the tv on but volume control won't work and it won't turn the tv off.

Jan 11, 2016 6:10 PM in response to Howmanoidby NMMacGuy,i have same problem. The New Apple TV has messed up my hdmi-cec. When i pulled apple tv of the box it was controlling the tv power and volume. Now even after being powered on/off several times, it won't control tv or volume (even though its set to On to control it) and I now can't control the TV's volume from its own volume control more, i have to use the AV system's volume. Even if it turn hdmi control OFF, my tv remote won't control AV system anymore. Using old apple tv I was able to control tv volume from tv's remote, now even that doesn't work. Also I've had difficulty flipping from Xbox to Apple tv, (never had that issue before) , sometimes shows black screen instead apple tv, sometimes it shows several green screens then apple comes up. Also i have switched backgrounds from Aerial to Photostream -- several times, it wont' save it. it says its there, but then goes back to Aerial every time.
For reference i have a Sony Bravia.

Apr 1, 2016 6:29 AM in response to Lior123by uviteru,I had the same problem until yesterday--suddenly the apple remote will now also control the volume on my samsung soundbar without any issue. I would recommend trying again to see if whatever update was pushed out fixes the other issues as well.

May 23, 2016 6:05 AM in response to Howmanoidby rzhad,Got the same problem. Got a new ATV4 a couple of weeks ago. All worked fine for about a week. Then, all of a sudden ATV4 stopped turning the tv on. and stopped changing to correct source if the tv is alreasy on. Really annoying as I have to change the source on tv to blueray reciever and then change the source on the reciever to HDMI 2.
ATV4 and PS4 connected to Samsung B-ray reciever. Reciever is connected to Samsung tv.
Everything else works perfect.

May 23, 2016 6:25 AM in response to rzhadby Diana.McCall,CEC is a tricky critter. All I can suggest is to check the settings all along the HDMI chain to be sure CEC is enabled.
It sounds like you may have received an ATV software update. I find that power cycling the ATV after an update is required to put it back to "normal", so you should try that.
Why not connect ATV directly to an HDMI input on the TV? Is your bluray also a sound system?
-
May 23, 2016 6:42 AM in response to Diana.McCallby rzhad,Yes bluray is also a home theatre with 5.1 sound. And yes, the problem started after an ATV software update.
What do you mean by "power cycling" th ATV? I tryed resarting it from settings and disconnecting it from power. Didn't help.
-
May 23, 2016 6:54 AM in response to rzhadby Diana.McCall,I meant disconnecting it from power for at least 30 seconds.
As I said, all you can do is check the settings on each device. Maybe turn CEC off and back on.
Are you using "high speed' HDMI cables for all connections? That ensures they support the current standard.
-
May 23, 2016 7:14 AM in response to Diana.McCallby rzhad,Maybe I didnt leave it without power for long enough. I will try that when I get home. Thank you for the advice!!
HDMI cables are all "high speed". As I said everything worked perfect in the first week.

Jun 2, 2016 3:21 PM in response to Howmanoidby Michael Tyznik,I'm having this issue on an LG WebOS TV. The most annoying thing is that the AppleTV does turn off my Sony soundbar (which is weird because the AppleTV is connected directly to the TV, which is connected to the soundbar). The TV then detects that there's no external audio output connected and changes its output to the TV speakers. So every time I turn on the AppleTV I have to go into my TV settings and change the audio output from the TV speakers back to HDMI.

Jun 2, 2016 4:48 PM in response to Michael Tyznikby Diana.McCall,Check the HDMI-CEC settings on both the TV and the soundbar.
Does Apple TV turn the TV on? Does it also turn on the soundbar?
TVs generally behave like they're the center of the system, and it's their job to command the peripherals. Apple's done a little trick to take control, but it may not work perfectly with all systems.
If you cannot get them to work the way you want, you may need to disable Control TV etc. in Apple TV.

Jun 2, 2016 5:28 PM in response to Diana.McCallby Michael Tyznik,Yes, the AppleTV correctly turns the TV and soundbar on, selects the correct input for the TV, and controls volume correctly.

Sep 11, 2016 9:15 AM in response to Howmanoidby Austin Lindsay,This may be year late. But with my E series TV. I went into the system settings on my Vizio TV found the CEC settings, and changed it from "ARC only" to "Enable" then I went to the Device Discovery area of my Vizio TV and had it discover my Apple TV. Now my Siri Remote powers my TV off and on.
