Q: What can be done to minimize crashing?

My computer has been crashing regularly. It's inconvenient, but I also want to avoid hardware damage due to he consistency of it. My guess is it may be bit rate processing. What means can I utilize to mend and repair this matter?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.3)

If it results in a kernel panic, log the panic and post it here:
OS X: About kernel panics - Apple Support
Mac OS X: How to log a kernel panic - Apple Support

Otherwise, Note the time of the next crash. After rebooting open the Console app in Finder>Applications>Utilities and look for log entries at the time of the crash. Post suspicious ones here.
