Q: Airplay issue with El Capitan

Having a reliability issue while using airplay with el capitan to apple tv 3! it will either work after a long delay (and not turn off) or won't work at all. My iPhone 6S iOS 9.0.2 works fine with airplay and my home network is not an issue. Anyone else have this issue?

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014), OS X Yosemite (10.10.2)

yes, I've changed the channel, I've changed the MTU, I've changed the country code, moved the router, changed from 5 gig hertz to 2.4 gigahertz and back again, tried various channels, hardwired it, rebooted everything, updated everything, moved my NAS farther from the router in case it was interfering in some way, put the router right next to the stereo  hmmm checked the firewall, didn't turn it off but iTunes is allowed incoming signals.

my pc running iTunes and using airplay streams all day everyday with no problems, same for the iPad. I have no trouble streaming from my pc to my ps3 high definition movies. But El Capitain can't send a signal 5 feet without screwing it up.

    But thanks

It seems you have tried everything.

Just one more thing, both Air media Server App and iTunes are allowed incomming connections in your Firewall?

I'm also allowing incomming connections on CA signed software.

That's the only things I can come up with.

I didn't find the Air media Server App on my macbook, are you referring to the airport utility? I allowed access for that one. I'm trying to find out how to allow connections for all CA signed software.

Thanks, I'll let you know if this works.

Well that also did not work. But when airplay lost its connection once it gave me this message instead of the usual can not connect...

My Airplay won't work with El Capitan either, granted its my first time attempting to set up the feature.  But strangely it DOES work through iTunes, is anyone else sharing this coincidence?

Like many posts I've read, my Airplay option for Chrome is constantly set to "Off" in my display preferences, no matter what I try, its always Off.  Annoying bc everythings 'apparently' up to date, shared wifi network etc.  Sooo frustrating.  Any ideas?

strangely enough when I use airplay through iTunes on my pc i can stream to my stereo fine. But it just won't do it on a mac. I'm going to take this thing back and exchange if for another. If it still does work screw it. I can buy a much cheaper computer that doesn't work.

Same issue: choppy audio. have tried changing settings on firewall and turned it off completely. Updated software on AppleTV. No luck.  Is Apple going to respond to this?  It didn't work on Yosemite  either. I was hoping El Capitan would fix the issue.

After reading the post about iTunes working on a PC, I turned on iTunes on my Mac and low and behold - audio streams just fine. It only streaming audio or video by turning AirPlay on in the top menu.

Someone get Apple to fix this!

Yes, airplay works on my PC through iTunes but not on my new out of the box macbook. I'm guessing its a hardware issue otherwise they would have fixed it by now. My iPad also has no problems streaming to my stereo.

    Had the same issue.

The Apple TV update over the internet was not working either.

To sort out I had to:

    1. Disconnect power for Apple TV and HDMI (Connection to TV)
    2. Connect MacBook Air (Or other Mac) to Apple TV 3rdGen (USB x Micro USB cable)
    3. Open ITunes and connect power cable.
    4. Chose Restore when prompted.

Itunes now will download the file and install latest update on Apple TV. When this process is over you'll be told to connect your Apple TV to the TV.

    Now you:

    1. Disconnect Power cable from Apple TV
    2. Disconnect Micro USB cable (connection to computer)
    3. Connect HDMI cable or equivalent and power up Apple TV by connecting power cable
    4. Go over the menus when prompted, enter your wi-fi access data.

You now should be able to mirror your desktop again.

    Good luck

I have just spoken to Apple Care and was told that there is a known bug (El Capitan on iMac) which will be fixed in next release. However, no known date for he release and no workaround given

Nice to know but total crap. They waste everyones time with this rubbish. Its obviously broken. Can't they just try and use it themselves before they waste everyones time. How about giving everyone a rebate or paying for the wasted time which was substantial. Ridiculous.

I wish they would hurry up and get this fixed. I raised a bug report with Apple for this Airplay issue at the beginning of October last year. Almost 4 months later we're still no further along. I'm so freaking angry.

That'll teach me for being an early adopter of El Capitan.

    Lesson learned.

Amusing, it thinks 'opposite of heaven' is ****, not sure why it considers it a swear word! Just a way of describing my experience with the product ;0)
