Jan 10, 2016 4:16 PM in response to ashdaviesby ChrisJ4203,Your version of OS X is too old. You need a newer version for the latest version of iTunes, which is v12.3.2. You will need to update your OS X to run the latest iTunes.

Under System Requirements, it says "Mac: USB 2 or 3 port, OS X v10.7.5 or later, and iTunes 12.2 or later."
If your Mac runs Snow Leopard (10.6.8), the latest version of iTunes for that release of OS X is not supported with the iPod. You'll need to update OS X to a later release. To determines your options, select About This Mac from the Apple menu. For Snow Leopard, there's a button for More Info. What does it say for Model Identifier?
