Q: Transferring Local Mailboxes From Snow Leopard Mail to El Capitan Mail?

Hi

I have a an old Macbook running Snow Leopard (10.6.8). I also have a new iMac running El Capitan. I have setup my email account as you may expect on my new iMac without any issues.

However, I need to transfer some local mailboxes from Mail on the Macbook to the iMac.

On the Macbook I have archived the local mailboxes and now I have all the .mbox folders to transfer across. When I try to import these into Mail on the iMac they do not show up.

How can I successfully transfer these local mailboxes from Snow Leopard Mail to El Capitan Mail?

Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks.

Hello kahane15,

I understand you have exported your mail on your MacBook but when you connect the two and try to import the mailboxes into your iMac you don't see the mailboxes.

Did you follow the steps in this article for export / import?
Mail (El Capitan): Import or export mailboxes

Note if the import looks like it worked, the mail will be in the Import mailbox.
The messages are in a new mailbox called Import in the Mail sidebar. You can drag folders and messages from the Import mailbox to new or existing mailboxes, then delete the Import mailbox.
An alternate way to move the mail over would be the Migration Assistant.

Except that Migration Assistant doesn't seem to have transferred the messages or if it did, I don't know where they are and can't track them down. Where should I be lookining?
