Q: Family share just photos?
Okay, my family is not the young family talked about in the promos. My kids are on their own, but we'd like to share a single photo album that we can all contribute to it, that I see as possible. But, can this be done while still keeping everything else, especially iTunes and App purchases, separate?

No. It's an album in the Photos Library. To start group the photos you want to begin with and put them in an album. Next, select all of the photos in the album and use the Share button and select iCloud Photo Sharing from the menu:
In the next window select New Shared Album.
Then fill in the album name, add the emails addresses and create.
The recipients will get an email like this:
