Jan 12, 2016 2:57 PM in response to rainairby lllaass,Try a cleaning disk. different lasers are used for reading and writing and CD and DVD and thus maybe only a dirty laser lens.
Otherwise cold be hardware problem with the drive.
Have you tried another brand of DVDs?

Jan 12, 2016 4:34 PM in response to lllaassby rainair,I should have mentioned, I did try a CD cleaning disk and also two different brands of DVDs that have burned well in the past. So, I guess it is likely a hardware problem. I am loathe to spend any money repairing or replacing the superdrive on this older Mac Pro.
Well, thank you for your attempt to troubleshoot!
