Q: Superdrive plays movies, CDs, but ejects DVD-R

I am trying to burn a DVD -- first one in a long time.  My circa 2010 Mac Pro with Superdrive is ejecting DVD-R discs, but happily plays DVD movies and CDs.  When inserting a DVD-R, the drive goes through 2 cycles of what appears to be reading the disk, then the Superdrive door pops open.  Any idea what this problem is?

Thank you.

Mac Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5), 10 GB RAM

Try a cleaning disk. different lasers are used for reading and writing and CD and DVD and thus maybe only a dirty laser lens.

Otherwise cold be hardware problem with the drive.

Have you tried another brand of DVDs?

I should have mentioned, I did try a CD cleaning disk and also two different brands of DVDs that have burned well in the past.  So, I guess it is likely a hardware problem.  I am loathe to spend any money repairing or replacing the superdrive on this older Mac Pro.

Well, thank you for your attempt to troubleshoot!

DVD burners are cheap and not that hard to replace.

Yo can even get a USB burner. If yo want you can even get a BluRay drive
