Q: "What to do before selling or giving away your Mac" Do these steps work on a G4 iMac using OS X 10.4.11? I have to wonder if the differences are too great.

I have an older iMac with a G4 processor and OS X 10.4.11. I don't believe there is a recovery disk and such so have to wonder if the methods of this web page will fail if I try it.

You need to use a Mac OS X install DVD instead of the recovery partition.

Steps 3 and 5 will not apply, otherwise the procedure is the same. There should, in fact, be a disk that came with your iMac. If you don't have it, a retail OS X install disk would also work. Boot to it by holding the "C" key. Do this in place of Step 6, but still follow the instructions for Disk Utility. You're just doing it from the installation disk instead of the recovery partition, which your Mac doesn't have.

Thanks to both Neil and stevejobsfan. I thought this must be the case. The page should state for which Macs the directions apply. (Maybe they do. I sometimes have a RTFM issue!)
