Q: Converting 2K Footage to HD. How to Crop?

Greetings,

I have an Image Sequence in the 2K Format (2048 x 1080) and I would like to convert it to HD (1920 x 1080).

I'd like to crop the extra 128 pixels off the Sides.

    I'm using Compressor 4.2.1 on a 2012 Macbook Pro.

In the Settings Section the Compressor 4 Manual says this:

Scale image to preserve aspect ratio: Affects only video media using non-square pixels, such as NTSC and PAL formats, and only when you are not intentionally changing the video frame size....

Given that, is there a good way to convert the 2K sequence to HD?

Thanks in advance for your response.

Regards,

Rajnesh

Assuming you want to avoid any distortion of the image, you would let Frame Size be Automatic (which it is by default) and in the Crop section of the Video pane, enter 61 each for left and right fields.

In the Frame Size field you should see the size change to 1920x1080.

    Hi Russ,

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I want to get from 2K to HD without Distortion.

I tried 3 settings, as follows:

        In Case 1, I set:

    •     Frame Size = Automatic
    •     Crop (Left and Right)  = 61 px

But Compressor Adjusted the Frame Size to: 1926 x 1107. Please see below:

    Cropped 61px.jpg

        In Case 2, I set:

    •     Frame Size = Automatic
    •     Crop (Left and Right)  = 64 px   (Which is (2048 - 1920)  / 2)

But Compressor Adjusted the Frame Size to: 1920 x 1107. Please see below:

    So, Finally,

    In Case 3, I set:

    •     Frame Size = Manual (1920 x 1080)
    •     Crop (Left and Right)  = 64 px   (Which is (2048 - 1920)  / 2)

And I see the following Compressor Panel:

    Cropped 64 Manual Frame Size.jpg

Any Ideas on whether Case 3 is the Preferred way to go?

    Thanks much.
