Q: Re: Can I use iCloud Photo Library to save space on my device?

The article tells me that iCloud Photo Library keeps "device-sized" versions of photos on the device...Is that what's taking up 3.1GIG on my iPad? That's a lot of "device-sized" images, isn't it? Even though I have lots of space available in iCloud Photo Library, my iPad storage is close to being full. Maybe the simple problem is I have too many photos for my iPad to handle, even at "device-size"? Kind of a conundrum... I think I'll just take my oldest photos and put them on a jump drive and store them away. And then reduce the amount of iCloud storage space I pay for!

iPad, iOS 9.2

Optimisation is dynamic, it reduces the resolution of your photos as and when needed, so you may not notice it occurring at first. However when it is needed, it is very effective and users have reported libraries being optimised to much less than 10% of their original size in some cases. My own library is about 9% of its original size on my phone.
