Q: Find Friends - Location not available

I had an iPhone 4 for 5 years and have just upgraded to an iPhone 5s. My wife has an iPhone 5 and both phones are on the latest version - iOS 9.2. SInce I upgraded I have been unable to see my wife's location on Find Friends, even though my my location is available on hers. We both have "Location Services" and "Share My Location" set to "on". WIth my previous phone we could both view each other's location no problem but there seems to be an issue now.

Can anyone suggest a fix for this issue or a setting that I may need to change?

Thanks.

Thanks very much for your help braden85.

I still have not been able to resolve this problem though.

I have gone back to my old phone (the iPhone 4) and checked the Find Friendship on there. I was still able to see my wife's location using that phone. I checked the settings in the app and it turns out I was signed in using a different Apple ID - I didn't realise I had more than one ID. I have now signed out and deleted the app from that phone. We both deleted each other from Find My Friends on our current phones and then added each other again. We still have the same problem though. My wife can see my location but I can't see hers - "Location not available".

This is very confusing and frustrating as it worked fine until I got my new phone.

I haven't been able to consistently find my husband or daughter's location since I upgraded to 9.2.1.  They were listed as "cannot find location" for most of the day following updating, then for a couple of hours it was working and now it's back to not being able to locate them.  Very frustrating- I feel your pain!  I still haven't had any luck in finding a solution, either.

    Thanks again braden,

I think I have solved this problem now. It seems that my problem was caused by the fact that I was using an @mac.com Apple ID. I created this ID years ago and I was using it to sign in to iCloud and back up my phone. It looks like .mac IDs don't work with Find My Friends, probably as Apple have been trying to get rid of them for a long time now. I have another Apple ID using a different email address so I have signed in to iCloud using that account and now Find My Friends is working as I would expect.

    Thanks again for your help.
