Q: iOS 4.3.5 error 9 when updating to 9.0.2

Dear Mac Experts,

I've been having issues updating my cousin's old iPad 2 WiFi (MC979ZP) from 4.3.5 to 9.0.2. I keep having Error 9 whether I use DFU or any other method. Apart from that, Apple has also stopped signing all versions of Firmware prior to 9.0.2, therefore any older firmware is unusable (Error 3194 without fix even using System32). I was also trying firmware 8.4.1 and older firmware.

By the way, I've tried many different original cables and many different computers, both Mac and Windows, including the garbage bin.

According to Apple's HQ, this could be an "Untested Issue with latest iTunes and iOS9 having a negative effect on very old versions of iOS being upgraded to iOS9".

I'm writing here to seek help from you, if there is any other solution to this issue, and also to hopefully notify Apple's Support on this issue and hope they will fix it on their next version of iTunes.

Warmest Regards,

Mak ********

As long as apple does not allow verification of any previous update( preferably ios 6 or higher) we are stuck.

or lets hope an update in ios9 may fix the issue. which is highly unlikely though given apple track record of forceful obsolescence of its devices.

OK, so here's the scoop. I sent Apple 2 iPads the other day and 2 days later they sent me 2 replacement iPads. I don't know much about Apple replacement products but these things look brand new, still iPad 2 though. They came with iOS 8.x.x.

Here's the repair ID's you can refer to, hopefully it makes it easier for you to get your stuff fixed.

So, what, it's fixed now? I can download the latest iOS off of iTunes now? I'm a little confused from the information that's being given. I'm new to Apple and don't understand this DFU Mode and beta .ipsw :/

It looks like Apple have responded to the community and are going to support the update from iOS 4 and iOS5 directly to iOS9.3.

The beta release will be an early release to allow App developers to 1) check that their software is compatible with the new release and 2) to allow new software to be developed using the new features of iOS9.3 ready for the formal release.

Anyone updating using this may be taking a chance as there will be limited support and possibly some apps won't work as expected.

I for one, am going to be patient and wait for the formal release of iOS9.3 via the normal update procedure. (I only have 2 working at iOS4.3)

There doesn't seem to be a release date as yet, but spring seems likely according to Google rumours.

Unless perhaps, anyone can confirm that it is possible to easily downgrade from iOS9.3 Beta back to iOS9.2 current release.

It will be interesting to see if there is any more feedback from people who have updated.

Many people have complained about the performance of iPad2s at iOS9, not that I have seen this - we have at least 30 iPads running iOS9.2.

yes finally, it all works smoothly!!

I've been following this post for some time. Thanks everyone for all information about this problem.

For those who do not know where you get the ios:

Just google for IOS9.3 beta download(iPad2,1_9.3_13E5181d_Restore  for the IPAD2Wifi) . Using iTunes you can get your iPad 2 back alive, so that you finally can install apps again.

    Good luck everyone.

Now I can finally enjoy the iPad2 with the new (but slow) IOS 9.3Beta

German heise publishing company published an article regarding this exact problem. If your interested you can get to it with following link: http://www.heise.de/newsticker/meldung/iPad-2-Update-auf-iOS-9-kann-schiefgehen- 3072733.html

They wrote that they contacted Apple regarding this problem, but Apple did not answer yet.

I have no idea what sorcery you guys are using, but with the new 9.3 beta IPSW (which I double checked numerous times to be the right one for my device) I am now getting error 27. This makes 0 sense and is beyond frustrating.

Both, unfortunately. I can't possibly imagine what i'm doing wrong. iTunes is up to date, right ipsw, even turned off all the security settings when trying on windows. Still nothing.
