Q: MBA crashes when charging

Hello comrades! My trusty 2011 MBA 13" was serving me wonderfully until it started to crash and restart very often (with the message "Your computer restarted because of a problem" ==> http://i.stack.imgur.com/0Fpgn.jpg ).

This only happens sometime after it is connected to a MagSafe charger -- my wife also has a MBA and the same happens when I use her charger, so I assume it is not related to the charger. Also, since a few days ago the green light in the adapter doesn't always light up immediately -- I must move it a bit until it fits and effectively starts charging.

Has anyone experienced something similar? BTW, my battery seems to be ok according to system profiler:

Battery Information:

  Model Information:

  Serial Number: D8620930313DKRNAZ

  Manufacturer: SMP

  Device Name: bq20z451

  Pack Lot Code: 0

  PCB Lot Code: 0

  Firmware Version: 406

  Hardware Revision: 000a

  Cell Revision: 162

  Charge Information:

  Charge Remaining (mAh): 4486

  Fully Charged: No

  Charging: No

  Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 5257

  Health Information:

  Cycle Count: 255

  Condition: Normal

  Battery Installed: Yes

  Amperage (mA): -3095

  Voltage (mV): 7694

Any ideas? Could it still be related to the battery? Or may I have something else (such as the MagSafe connector in the laptop) replace?

Thanks!!!!

It appears that the MBA had a kernel panic.  Log and post it per these instructions:

    Ciao.

since it mentions the backupd process, I'm temporarily leaving TimeMachine off and my TimeMachine USB drive physically disconnected -- let's see how it fares

    cheers!

These are possible software candidates that are causing the panics:

    Screen Shot 2016-01-14 at 7.37.18 AM.png

Disengage them and if the panics stop, add them one by one and see which one is the 'problem child'.

    Ciao.

Thanks for the directions! I'll do as you suggest and then post the results.

Just for the sake of curiosity, how/why did you single these out from other kexts?

Ok, apparently the Seagate drivers and its kernel extensions are total crap and are the ones to blame for the crashes:

    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2748782

    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3987947?tstart=30

and here is the explanation on how to get rid of them for good:

Let's see how it fares now! Thanks Ogelthorpe!

Just a quick report here: even after removing all non-apple kexts, including the Seagate extensions, kernel panics are still happening, apparently at a specific time after a Time Machine backup starts (around 700 MB into a user-initiated backup). So now I've disabled Time Machine to see if they stop, and that Seagate drive is physically disconnected as well.

After disabling Time Machine backups AND the Seagate Drive, kernel panics stopped immediately. So I reconnected the drive and realized it was acting a bit weird (it took a long time to list files etc.).

I decided to erase and re-partition it (still without Seagate drivers) and resume Time Machine backups, and they've been working flawlessly for a few days since. So my conclusion is that some corruption in the HD in connnection with Time Machine backups CAN cause kernel panics, which seems weird to me. Anyway, now they're gone.

    Thanks, Oglethorpe, for your help!
