Q: Help with Audio not playing - iMac running Windows 7

My Intel Core i5 iMac 27, running Windows 7 Home Professional with Bootcamp - cannot play audio - through internal or external "headphone" jack to peripheral.

Have re-started in Apple OS and did updates, and the audio worked fine in that environment - so its not the equipment - but likely a driver issue.(?)

My Device Manager in Windows 7 shows two High Definition Audio Device drivers, which i have uninstalled and reinstalled, after rebooting several times.

Play back devices menu shows

- Digital Audio (S/PDIF) as default device

- Digital Audio (HDMI) Not plugged in

Can anyone help me return audio playback? Greately appreciate any assist.

The GT750 was an example, you should not use it. From iMac (27-inch, Late 2013) - Technical Specifications, you have one of the following,

Graphics
3.2GHz
NVIDIA GeForce GT 755M graphics processor with 1GB of GDDR5 memory
3.4GHz
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 775M graphics processor with 2GB of GDDR5 memory
Configurable to NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M with 4GB of GDDR5 memory.

Determine your exact GPU and find the proper drive on the nVidia Drivers website. Use that driver and install it.

Hi,

I worked with NVIDIA and have gotten the download for the drivers in Windows environment. Device Manager now looks like the screen grab attached. Still now sound though....what do you think can be done now that the right drivers are there?

Can you try to re-run setup.exe from the Bootcamp folder on the BCA-created drivers USB?

If you downloaded the W7 drivers to a USB, you can try to run setup.exe from Bootcamp folder on this USB.

I have that folder in my downloads (in Windows environment) extracted into folders etc..and not on a separate USB flash drive

There is this folder with HDAudio, in the NVIDIA folder, in Bootcamp.... I screen grabbed this from the Mac side

Hi,

I ran the Boot Camp setup, which offered REPAIR, which I did, and now returned to Windows environment. Still no audio. Faint red persists,

Am live chatting with someone from NVIDIA on the Audio HDMI outputs, but its not solved with them either.

In your directory listing you BC drivers 5.0.5033, but Install Windows 7 and earlier on your Mac using Boot Camp - Apple Support indicates Boot Camp Support Software 5.1.5640 should be used for your Mac.

How did you get 5.0.5033 for your iMac? Is it just an incorrect folder name? What do you see as Product Version in Bootcamp.xml?

Thank you, will download that version of BC5. I think I just hit the 5, but in the wrong chart....thinking they were one and the same, from the Apple site that had each product in a matrix....

No change, ugh! The version I have downloaded to windows environment was the 5.1.5640.

Un-install the three drivers under the Sound entry in Device Manager, delete the devices, shutdown your Mac and run SMC/NVRAM Reset, and then try the BC setup.exe. If that does not work, you can try the nVidia drivers.

Hi,

I uninstalled all the sound drivers, then SMC reset, restarting with a NVRAM reset, then BC Setup (version 5640) with no luck.

Then, installed the Ge Force Game Ready Driver, which replaced Audio Drivers with NVIDIA High definition Audio, and Virtual Audio, with a third High Definition Audio Device controller

Still no audio in Windows 7 environment. *****!

Could this all mean its a hardware thing? My sense is If it works on the MAC side, the internal speakers and the headphone jack to a speaker, it is NOT hardware issue, but could I be wrong.
