Q: iphone 5 Won't Start. - Help.

I got my iphone 5 in December 2012 so it's 3 years old. I use it often but not an insane amount. I never watch movies on it or do anything taxing. I also don't talk on it every day.

The phone's battery started dying a lot quicker recently (4 or 5 hours without use) and today it was at 97% charge (plugged in and charging) when all of a sudden the apple logo started coming on and off and continued doing that. Just coming on (the white apple) then the whole screen fading out and shutting down w/the cycle repeating itself.

I found something online advising me to try a hard re-set via itunes so it's currently in the process of doing that while connected to my Macbook. (19 minutes remaining.) Originally it said: Connected to itunes on the iphone 5 screen but now it's just the apple fading in and out again.

I've made an appt. at the Genius bar for this weekend but I'm starting to grow leery of Apple. Having an item only last three years (almost to the day) feels a bit expensive for an item that cost $500+.

Two questions:

1. Are Mac products only "temporary"/"short term" now? $500+ seems expensive for something that only lasts 3 years with minimum use.

2. Anyone familiar with this problem of the iphone 5 refusing to boot up?

Thanks so much for taking the time to offer any suggestions you might have.

I have an iphone 4S and 5S and never had any issues with them.  Once I upgraded to my 6S, I use both phones as a ipod.

So your car doesn't depreciate over time nor does it have wear and tear?

I understand things depreciate, sir or madam. But if you read the posting which was asking for help you'd see I very clearly stated that the phone isn't used extensively.

I have stereo components that are 30 years old that still work the way they did when they were bought. So spending $500 on something only to have it completely die 3 years later was/is a surprise. I've had great luck with my other apple products but they too are a bit older.

    No reason/need to get snarky.

I'm hoping if someone else has experienced this issue with their iphone 5 they might have some insight.

I brought it to the genius bar and they told me it was dead. They gave me another iphone 5 for $86. After looking back on things I realize that it was actually my second iphone 5 because the first had gone bad after a year and a half. So this is my third iphone 5 in three years. They're not lasting very long.

The only problem now though is that my "new" iphone will no longer connect to itunes because I'm still running 10.6.8 (which works fine for me) and the new phone is running 9.2.

Yes, I'[m aware that 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) is old school but for what I do/need it's fine.

It's a bummer that Mac doesn't allow connectivity between older operating systems that still work fine and newer op systems running on the iphone.

My problem seems to be resolved re: the phone though!
