Q: I am trying to make a purchase on iTunes with a gift card but it is not allowing me to because it wants to use my credit/debit card which I know have no funds in. My iTunes account has $30 on it but won't work as wants to use credit card.

My itunes account will not let me use my $30 credit which is loaded on. It wants to use my credit card which I've previously used but which now has been cancelled. I've gone into manage my account and tried to find where to de select credit card but there is no 'none' button. I now can't purchase from itunes.

I'm starting to think this is Apple purposely making it difficult for its customers to redeem a balance so it can it can book more revenue. Stealing without "stealing."

I am having a similar issue. I have $21.00 credit on my account, and have purchased music and IOS apps using iTunes gift cards for a long time. What I did long time ago was to change the credit card numbers to zeros, except for the last 4 digits because I don't need my credit card number on my account. That worked fine until yesterday when I installed a new Apple TV, and decided to rent a movie for $0.99 and got a notice that indicated that before renting the movie I had to update my billing information at the iTunes Store using my computer. The only choice I had was to only use a credit card, which I did in order to rent the movie.

What I am going to do next is to remove my credit card number from the iTunes Store, and if I am not allowed to purchase music and videos using iTunes gift cards, then I will take my business somewhere else.  And yes, I understand that Apple is not really billing my credit card, and using it as a collateral, but I just don't want to use my credit card, nor do I want its numbers at my account.

The itunes store website stinks for making purchases!  I got a $50 gift card and it showed up in my balance but defaulted to my credit card as well. The advice above -- to "reset" your account info -- worked.  But to make future purchases, you have to re-enter you credit card.  Silly.  Why make spendin' our money so hard, Apple?  Geesh.  I shouldn't have to fiddle around for 20 minutes, then google for an answer for another 10 minutes to figure out how to use a gift card.

Just as an addition to this, I had to turn family sharing off in order for 'none' To be an option on the payment information page, but after this it worked

    Thanks!
