Q: My second screen won't stay connected

I have a mid 2011 iMac 27in, I purchased a second screen for it ( LG), I have it connected through the thunder bolt connection. When its connected it works great but when the computer falls to sleep it losses connection and the only way I can get the iMac to connect to it is by restarting the computer. If any one has any suggestions I would appreciate it.

Hey Nexus1021,

I understand that you are having issues with seeing your external display show up after waking from sleep. Let's see if we can get that worked out.

I would start with taking a look at the article below. It will go in details on troubleshooting multiple issues with no image on the display. One thing to look at is in System Preferences > Displays, and see if you can detect the display. You might also want to try resetting the SMC and NVRAM.

I have a mid 2011 imac 21" connected using a tb -> dvi connector to various external monitors during it's life currently to a 27" asus
never had that issue by what means do you connect the external monitor ?
