Nov 3, 2015 6:21 PM in response to StealthRocketby Sarallelogram,This is infuriating. I went mac for that flipping functionality in the first place and now its been ripped out from under my feet. Ugh.
I can't even say more because I am so ticked off about it. I hate this whole "let's make the computer just like a tablet" nonsense. I have both for a reason.

Nov 3, 2015 7:49 PM in response to Sarallelogramby ecogar,I completely agree! And Google is no better.... cannot drag photos out of Photos....you are forced to download only. I end up spending WAY too much time moving photos all over the place from one Google account to another by downloading to desktop and uploading..... just like the Apple debacle!!

Nov 3, 2015 7:51 PM in response to Sarallelogramby ecogar,To me, it is the ultimate in lack of consideration for the user to remove functionality that made our lives easier.... dragging photos and dropping them in email is something I do 50 times a day and now an extra step has been added....WHAT A TOTAL PAIN!!!

Nov 16, 2015 7:11 PM in response to StealthRocketby Gaye M,There is not a search function in Photos under Albums. I'm stuck looking at titles (no alphabetized or in any order.)
1. I need a way to find a photo for a FB cover.
2. I found the photos I was looking for in Photos using Search
3. I dragged photos to the desktop
4. In Facebook, I have to select a photo, and it makes me search Albums or Recent Photos. There is no search function. I can't find them here from 2010.
5. Facebook will not let me drag and drop the photos from Desktop into the cover or portrait areas, only by using a search and pulling from Photo.
Anyone know how to do this? Will Apple fix it? Will contacting Facebook?
I feel like I'm in a bad TV episode: Stay tuned to find out!

Nov 16, 2015 7:24 PM in response to Gaye Mby Gaye M,I found a way. Hover over the camera icon in the Cover Photo (or Profile Photo). It will say Update Cover Photo. Click on that. In the menu, click on Upload Photo. The screen will appear with location choices from which you can upload your photo from your computer - including Desktop.
Hope this helps!

Jan 2, 2016 12:16 PM in response to StealthRocketby davidandora,I've contacted support more than once to add my voice of concern over this omission. The extra steps are at best frustrating and worst infuriating. So many of us committed to iPhoto, so the prospect of transferring to something else is not attractive, especially with the likelihood of loosing any organization or image notation. This limitation is a double-whammy when you want to edit the image in another application and then have to reimport the "new" image into Photos. The process is a major time suck and annoyance and as others can attest incredibly unorganized. I keep holding my breath that someone at Apple will come to their senses and permit the restoration of this basic functionality to Photos. It's not looking so great so far.

Mac OS XMy work flow is in shambles! Please apple ! FIX IT!
It's not Apple's responsibility to re code all 3rd party applications. Once Adobe provides new versions of its applications so they can access the photos in the library via the Media browser. This screenshot is from Safari and is how the new, updated apps will access the photos:
Again, Apple has changed how its system and apps do the job and it's up to the 3rd party developers to fix their apps to integrate with them.
You can still use iPhoto if you had iPhoto 9.6.1 or some version of iPhoto 9.4 installed before the upgrade to El Capitan.
iPhoto wasn't deleted from your hard drive. It was just removed from the Dock and is still in the Applications folder. In order to get iPhoto 9.6.1 from the App Store you first must have some version of iPhoto 9.X on your hard drive. If you do try following Terence Devlin's instructions in this post to obtain iPhoto 9.6.1 from the App Store:

Re: Is Iphoto gone ? i want it back!
Recommended
Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1
If iPhoto 9.6.1 is there, close the App Store, drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash and then go back to the App Store.
Install the App from the App Store.
Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.
NOTE: the key to this procedure is to move the existing version of iPhoto 9 to the Trash bin in the Dock (don't empty yet) before going to the App Store.

Jan 6, 2016 7:01 AM in response to Old Toadby Whealie,Download iPhoto if you do not have it (my brand new machine didn't but it was still listed in the app store). In finder, go to photos and the Photo library. Right click and show package contents. Drag the Masters file into iPhoto. This loads all the photos into iPhoto (and may take some time).
Connect your iPhone or camera and, when Photo loads up, uncheck the box that makes Photo open when that device is connected (http://osxdaily.com/2015/05/31/stop-photos-opening-automatically-mac-os-x/). Close Photo.
Go to iPhoto and in preferences set it to open when his device is connected.
This way you never need use Photo again but can continue to use iPhoto. You can drag and drop to Faceboook etc once again

Jan 15, 2016 6:55 AM in response to Winston Churchillby kasuomiyake, but why going back in time? iPhoto is 100x better than Photos!
-
Jan 15, 2016 6:57 AM in response to Whealieby kasuomiyake, true but is completely ridiculous to have to use and older version that was discontinued and only the ones that had it can find it in AppleStore.
Did apple hired Windows IT guys???

Apple TVI disagree, I wouldn't go back to iPhoto for a gold clock, a pork pie from my favourite pie shop and a years supply of Hawkshead Brewery Windermere Pale Ale.

Jan 19, 2016 8:30 AM in response to kasuomiyakeby artist999,Will Apple ever fix their lame Photos App? Or how longer should i use iPhoto, because with this old fashioned App a simple Drag and Drop is working like from every user expected?
Usability Fail and no help, shame on you Apple!

I can confirm that dragging to the finder does work, not sure why it didn't do it the first time. However, dragging from Photos to a browser upload window or anywhere else does nothing, option key or otherwise.
What browser are you using? With Safari and Firefox you can use the Media browser from within the browser to access the photos in the Photos library:

Jan 19, 2016 10:04 AM in response to Old Toadby artist999,Thanks, Old Toad.
Thats one alternative way and sometimes a useful (but for me more complicated and uncomfortable) workaround.
But for example in Facebook or other interfaces, where you can directly drag your fotos, your way is not a solution.
Hoping Apple will listen to their customers and our complaints (via this forum and via the feedback site).
