Q: macbook pro mid-2010 deleted mac parition and now will not boot

my macbook had windows and mac partition and accidentally i deleted mac partition before this it was shutting down due to getting too hot or some memory issue. Now i do not have mac parition windows runs fine for 1 minute and then shuts off to white screen sometimes grey screen or some random color. when i try to install brand new os x from hard drive everything goes good with i boot using option key it starts loading and then goes to white screen at random time mostly withing minutes. i have tried resetting PRAM and did not work.  I tried using fsck- fy it shows hard drive mounted properly but read only does it mean PRAM is not working. How do i fix this?

If yo have access to another Mac

    - Download the appropriate OSX  installer. They should be listed in the Purchased section of the Mac App Store if you previously downloaded them with the ID you are using.

    - Make a bootable USB media using the following:

    DiskMaker X

    - Boot from that media

How was that bootable drive made?

Have you tried disconnecting a; unnecessary peripherals except mouse KB and monitor. This includes all internal PCle cards except one graphics card and pulling out all SD sleds.

You have not stated what OS version you had.

Sounds like you lost (deleted) your Mac OS install. When you boot with Option key, do 2 partitions show up?

Here is an Apple KB on re-installing OS on Mac.

How to reinstall OS X on your Mac - Apple Support

You may want to try a Recovery Mode re-install.

Hope you have every thing backed up as I would recommend that you do an erase and clean install. This will also wipe out your Windows partition, but you really want a clean system. I don't recommend Migration Assistant for this and vastly prefer fresh install of apps, then drag and drop for files.

Also check if Apple has a Service Bulletin out on your computer. There have been some GPU replacement programs for certain models.

Laptops are very susceptible to overheating due to dust bunnies. Have you ever had your computer cleaned inside?

Make sure you keep at least 15-25% free space on your hard drive.

    Hope this helps, Greg

I had Yosemite installed and i was trying to reinstall yosemite as well. When I boot with option key i only see windows and my hadrddrive if it's connected. So you suggest reinstalling through recovery not sure if that will work. I do not have backup unfortunately my hard drive crashed too which is why i was trying to back up everything again and middle crashed and lost everything. one of those days you know.

    Can you boot to Recovery?

If you upgraded the EFI firmware of your Mac yo also have internet Recovery

I suggest you try the Recovery Mode this is a hidden partition so it most likely still exists

Can't promise what will happen and it may attempt to over write your Windows as well.

Just guessing that you deleted the Mac side while in Windows, Windows installation is dependent on MacOs being present.

I keep at least 2 back-ups and 2 clones for my computers just for this reason. Not a question of IF, only a question of WHEN.

    Hope this helps, Greg

I can see recovery drive now but still as soon i click it within few second it goes to white screen and stuck forever. I try to boot in single mode to try fsck -fy but same problem again in middle of process it goes to plain white screen and stuck. There is some other issue here for sure. maybe it is GPU ? how do i get away with this ****.

    DeeJay

If you have access to another Mac you can access the hard drive in Target Disk Mode or by pulling out the drive and stick it in an external enclosure or dock. Copy whatever you can.

Then erase the drive, format to Mac OS Journaled and then install the OS while still in the external device. Install back into the computer and then you can determine if you have other issues.

You could also take the opportunity to install a faster or bigger internal drive as a replacement.

iFixit has step by step instructions

    Hope this helps, Greg

To me it apears that either your Mac has a hardware problem or that the format/file on the HD are messed up and it tryies to boot to a Recovery partion and gets confused bevause of what it reads on the disk.

If you disconnect the internal disk and connect a SB non-system disk then if you can boot to Internet Recovery that indicates a problem with the internal drive.
