Jan 15, 2016 8:28 AM in response to michael@vistaMSby Protodd,What version Apple TV do you have? only the first generation acted as a storage device allowing you to store personal media...
you would want to setup home sharing to stream photos from your iMac to the ATV - Use Home Sharing to share iTunes content with other devices - Apple Support
or store the photos on iCloud and stream from there - http://www.howtogeek.com/218073/how-to-use-your-icloud-photos-as-your-apple-tvs- screen-saver/

Jan 15, 2016 8:31 AM in response to Protoddby michael@vistaMS,Is there a way to just transfer the picture files to the TV?

Jan 15, 2016 8:35 AM in response to michael@vistaMSby Protodd,ATV version 1 - yes.
ATV version 2,3&4 are designed as streaming devices rather than storage devices so you cannot store any personal media in it.
The ATV4 storage is for apps/games rather than personal media (photos, tvshow, movies etc).

Jan 15, 2016 8:39 AM in response to Protoddby michael@vistaMS,I'm assuming it's version 1 since there are already personal pictures being used for the screen saver.

Jan 15, 2016 8:44 AM in response to michael@vistaMSby Protodd,We should never assume anything You should verify your model to ensure accurate support is provided.
Identify your Apple TV model - Apple Support
not necessarily. They could be photos in the cache on the version 2,3&4 - not storage but a cache...

Jan 15, 2016 9:10 AM in response to michael@vistaMSby Vinceassociate,If the ATV is silver, the fastest way is to take the Apple TV and an ethernet cable and connect the iMac and ATV then launch iTunes. Sync the unit and all your pictures should now reside on the ATV. You may need to check you pictures sync settings once the ATV is connected in iTunes and can designate only certain albums to sync..
If both the ATV and iMac are on the same wireless network already, launching iTunes should allow you to connect and sync to the ATV. Look for devices in iTunes. This will allow the same function wirelessly.

Jan 15, 2016 9:39 AM in response to michael@vistaMSby Vinceassociate,I am using iTune 12.3. Under the File menu there is a Devices option and the Apple TV should appear under there. What do you see?

Jan 15, 2016 9:48 AM in response to Vinceassociateby michael@vistaMS,I found the Devices pull down menu, but there is no Apple TV, everything is grayed out
I did find an option under Home Sharing to share pictures with Apple TV. Would this be it? I just want to copy some pics to the Apple TV to use for its screensaver.

Jan 15, 2016 9:49 AM in response to michael@vistaMSby Vinceassociate,No you need to sync the ATV. Did you connect the ATV to the iMac with the ethernet cable and plug in the ATV to boot it up? The light should be on.

Jan 15, 2016 9:59 AM in response to Vinceassociateby michael@vistaMS,It won't be easy to connect via ethernet, the TV is in the front lobby of a school I work at. Is there a way to connect wirelessly to transfer the pics? And is there a way to clear out the old pics?

Jan 15, 2016 10:26 AM in response to michael@vistaMSby Vinceassociate,Ah ha! You need to associate that Apple TV with your iTunes first. It obviously was setup by someone else.
I sold my silvers last year so this is all from memory:
Go to settings menu on the ATV and look under Computers I think.
There should be an option to sign out or disconnect.
You then should be able to use that same menu to connect to a new computer. Once unpaired, it should show up in devices on you iMac. It will give you a code on the ATV to type in your iMac and you then will connect.
The alternative is to do a factory reset from the Apple TV settings menu and start all over. You need to reconnect to the WiFi, need internet access to update the ATV software, and will loose any pictures or music on the ATV. After that it will be associated with your iTunes and you can update it from your iMac. The instructions are in the manual to do a fresh setup:
Here is the original manual. It is called pairing!
