Q: Can't Boot into Windows 10 after Cloning from HDD to SSD

Hi Loner T,

I bought my MacBook Pro late 2011, formatted the 750GB HD to (in this order) part1 125GB OS X and part2 500GB NTFS (for common storage) and part3 125GB Windows 7. And since then I kept upgrading both Mac OS and Win OS with no problem. Last night I bought 1TB SSD and used Mac OS X 10.10.5 Disk Utility version to format (in this order) part1 250GB OS X and part2 500GB NTFS (for common storage) and part3 250GB Windows 10. Installed Mac OS X 10.11.2 fresh on part1 and copy all content of part2 HD to part2 SSD and restored WinClone Image of part3 HD to part3 SSD.

Now Windows 10 can not boot.

Can you please help me to boot...

Just in case...

You have a 2011 Mac. You need a DVD of W7, USB will not work. You may also run into issues with Win8 Recovery on W7.

I installed Windows 10 fresh following 2 links

WIndows 10 is booting and working fine as long as I don't boot back to Mac OS X 10.11.2, if I do, I'll get black screen with

"No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key"

Any clue how can this be solved permanently…

    TIA

In Windows 10, run msinfo32 and look for BIOS Mode. What is the value?

    BIOS Mode = UEFI

I installed the BootCamp Windows derivers! and it messed up the VGA driver leaving the desktop blank...! no mater how many times I restart!

So I went back to BootCamp and created Windows 8.1 USB. Booted from USB, installed Windows 8.1 and when installed the drivers, same thing happened it messed up the VGA driver leaving the desktop Black Screen this time.

So I figured out that the drivers is originally for Windows 7.

So I went back to BootCamp and created Windows 7 USB (same stick!). But this time the boot screen (option key) does not show the USB !!

I went back and forth Windows 8.1 & 10 shows and boot and install but NOT Windows 7 (same stick, same BootCamp ver.) weird...!!!

Any idea why this is happing, and how to solve it ?

My idea is to go from Windows 7 install all drivers and all updates, then upgrade from within Windows 7 to Windows 8 then 8.1 then 10.

    TIA

For W7, you will need a physical DVD.

UEFI/EFI exposes two GPUs which are not handled correctly on the Macs by Windows. EFI is not very well supported on the 2011 Macs. You are complicating your own issues.

No. W7 and W8 have common drivers. That is an incorrect conclusion. This is because of EFI.

The firmware on the Macs controls it and will not let you do it. Install W7 using a physical DVD.

    But why ?!
