Q: My iPhone 5s is showing 1.0 GB used on the phone but I have it set to store to iCloud. How do I free up space on my phone?

I need to clear up some storage and I've tried every suggestion that I've read online including setting my phone's date back 2 years and clearing out my recently deleted photos.

You have not provided us with enough info to help. Have you looked at what is using your memory under Settings>General>Storage & iCloud Usage? Click on Manage Storage, then see what is using your memory in the list below.

There is no "store to iCloud" option. You can sync to iCloud or backup to iCloud, but not store to iCloud INSTEAD of on your phone.

Under Settinngs, Photo and Camera, iCloud is turned on and says "automatically upload and store your entire library in iCloud."

My pictures are being stored on the phone and the cloud, how do I clear them off of the phone so they are just on the cloud?

Having iCloud Photo Library turned on does not remove the photos from your device:

Can I use iCloud Photo Library to save space on my device?

iCloud Photo Library automatically keeps all your photos and videos in the original, high-resolution version. Follow these steps to choose how you store your photos and videos on your device:

    • On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, tap Settings > iCloud > Photos or Settings > Photos & Camera, then select a storage setting.

If you turn on Optimize [device] Storage, iCloud Photo Library will automatically manage the size of your library on your device, so you can make the most of your device's storage and access more photos than ever. All of your original, full-resolution photos and videos are stored in iCloud while device-size versions are kept on your device. You can download the original photos and videos over Wi-Fi or cellular when you need them.

If you turn on Download Originals, iCloud Photo Library will keep your original, full-resolution photos and videos in iCloud and on your device. Download Originals is the default setting for iOS devices with the free 5 GB storage plan and for all Mac devices.

You need an Internet connection to access an original photo or video that’s stored only in iCloud.

That cannot be done with iCloud.  If you delete from the phone it will also delete from iCloud.

May I suggest if you have a gmail account , you can download google photos.

    It provides unlimited photo backup.

Once all the photos are finished uploading you can delete them from the phone.  you can redownload your photos from the app when you need them.  Also you can access them on the web at Giogle photos.
