Q: Help! I cannot sign into iTunes store on my MacBook Pro

Every time I open iTunes on my MacBook Pro, I get this message...

iTunes could not connect to the iTunes Store. An
unknown error occurred (-54).

Make sure your network connection is active and try again.

Well, my network connection is certainly active, and what is more I can sign in to my Apple id through the App store
and through iCloud. I can also sign in via my iPhone and iPad.

I do all my downloading and music organising on my MacBook, and really need to access the store via this device.

Any ideas?

MacBook Pro (15-inch Late 2011), OS X El Capitan (10.11.2), Latest iTunes version 12.3.2.35

    Hello there, Graybags61.

It sounds like you are unable to connect to iTunes Store due to an unknown error (-54). The following Knowledge Base article offers up some great recommendations for troubleshooting:

If you can’t connect to the iTunes Store

    Before you begin

    1. Make sure that you can access the Internet on your computer or device.
    2. Make sure that your computer meets the iTunes minimum system requirements.
    3. Make sure that your operating system is up to date.
Mac: From the menu bar at the top of your computer screen, choose Apple () > Software Update to see if updates are available for your computer.

    On your Mac or PC

If you can't connect to the iTunes Store on your computer, a software conflict or your Internet service provider (ISP) might be blocking your access. The steps below might help you fix the issue.

    Mac

If there's still an issue after you try the steps above, contact your Internet service provider and confirm that these ports and servers are turned on for your network.

If you still can't connect to the iTunes Store, your security software or firewall might be blocking the ability of iTunes to communicate with the Internet. Learn how to resolve security software issues.
