Q: New imac5K i7 preview app super slow raw photos? Lightroom5 super slow? very disappointed

I called Apple support about the preview app problem he wasn't able to help me.... this is  a 2 month old computer ....(I do photo editing) and this computer become a nightmare..why my 2011 iMac run like a Ferrari?...

When I open a single RAW photo with a preview app (canon 5dmarkII 21mp)takes wild for photo to take a shape .but I could deal with that...

the problem begins when I put (10 same problem)or (30same problem) photos takes about 4 seconds for photo to take a shape and when I click for next photo

I'm  getting a beach ball then my fan starts to go hundred miles an hour ..and then becomes unusable..... I'm using Lightroom5 (of course updated) and that's another nightmare I do not get a chance to use different programs on this computer so I can say nothing else .

definitely I'm losing trust to Apple product and the sad part is you hear that from people more often ....my point is I spent $2,600 on this computer and performance of this computer are a little bit better than my $250 laptop

iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015), OS X El Capitan (10.11.2)

    Hi Dellwod,

As you've discovered by now, there are three types of people on Apple's support forum (any support forum, really). Those that know the answer, those that don't know the answer, and those who Google it for you because they don't know the answer but want to appear like they do.

I don't know why your RAW images open so slowly. However I do know it isn't because Lightroom isn't compatible with El Capitan. You pretty much said that yourself when you told us it takes Preview 4 seconds to open one. (That's slower than I would expect, but not dramatically so.) If you post a sample RAW I'm sure me or someone else will be happy to test it on their own Mac and see if we get the same results.

It's a shame your question isn't getting many responses, but when one responder is arguing with every other responder getting involved isn't very tempting.

Apparently Timmy there are more than three types of people. There are people who do Google searches for others in hopes of finding a solution for them. There are also those who can read. There are also those who are arrogant and have nothing better to do than criticize. Grow up.

Seems a reasonable summation to me.

FWIW, the only two users I have argued with since 2009 are yourself and Timmy. I wonder why that is?

I posted the link about the problems with Lightroom 4.2 from Adobe.

I posted a link for a possible solution for Preview being slow.

All the two of you have done is argue with me.

Mac preview yes I'm still working on this stupid it drives me crazy....I have my 2011 iMac next to me ..I reinstalled .. downgraded from El captain to Lion 10.7.5 and the Mac  preview 5.5.3 works like a charm Split Second and everything is open (Raw ) ......so I install the El captain 10.11.2 on 2011 iMac and the preview work same way works like  !!!!so I guess the hardware is good 5K 2015 ?I still didn't get a chance to check the pictures on different computers ..

I did some tests between the old 2011 computer and a new 2015 ......and I tell you what the new one it's not worth the $2600...I just hope they going to make el capitan more stable ..... .......working with Lightroom 5... 4 first 15 minutes it's not bad acceptable speed but after 15 minutesecomes so slow ?????

too many strange things going on with this computer ......thanks guys...

While that was interesting to read, I don't think anyone here can do much more unless you upload a sample RAW image somewhere.

    Hi again dellwod,

FWIW, I'm not going to rehash the known incompatibilities with various versions of Lightroom and OSX 10.11. I don't know if you tried the fix for Preview before you started your tests. What I would say is I have no stability problems with El Capitan on my Late 2015 5k, I have no problems with Preview. One possibility of course that hasn't come up is there may be a hardware issue with yours. Yes, it happens.

You may want to take a trip to the Apple Store.
