There is nothing in the user guide about amber lights nor have I come across an instance of one being reported.
I suspect a hardware failure of some kind but may be totally wrong about this.
You may ultimately need to replace the unit with Apple, but since it's an unknown issue at this time, you may wish to contact support first in the hope you may avoid the inconvenience of a return if it turns out to be another problem.
