Jan 19, 2016 6:25 AM in response to OGELTHORPEby Courcoul,Indeed, VLC (aka VideoLAN Player) stands tall in the Useful Tools category. Only thing I'd ask is if the latest version (2.2.1 "Terry Pratchett" as of 1/19/2016) still supports region-free playing of the data stream from the drive. Can't test it since mine is one of the new eunuch Macs that no longer have an optical drive and don't have an external handy.
Once upon a time, VLC could even play a Blu-Ray, but the media cabal caused that bit of code to have to be snipped out.

Jan 19, 2016 6:39 AM in response to Courcoulby OGELTHORPE,I have seen this suggested in the past on these forums. I have not tried it because most of my travel is within my region. It certainly is worth a try.
The only place it seems that one can escape this foolishness is Antarctica. That is not a part of any region.
(My recent trip to the East side of the pond did not entail any DVD purchases and playing of same. Hence still region 1 on my MBP. )
Ciao.

The 17" museum relic?
Be warned, those are fighting words.
I will admit to one flaw with a 17" MBP: It is a bad fit on an airplane when you fly peasant class. It is about 1" too large.
Ciao.

Jan 19, 2016 6:55 AM in response to OGELTHORPEby Courcoul,I've been trying to figure out if my 15" Retina display is the functional equivalent of 2 or 3 17" low-grade displays.....
But the total silence in which it operates can lull you to nod off like an infant.

Jan 19, 2016 7:02 AM in response to Courcoulby OGELTHORPE,I will retract my earlier comment: 'I will admit to one flaw with a 17" MBP: It is a bad fit on an airplane when you fly peasant class. It is about 1" too large'.
The problem lies with the airplane. The table should be larger.
Ciao.
