Q: 6th gen iPod Classic Reboot Loop

I recently bought a refurbished 80gb 6th Gen iPod Classic (Serial#: 8K**********YMV). I guess the previous owner used a Macintosh computer, whereas I use a PC, because iTunes told me to restore the iPod. I attempted to restore, it gave me an error number, 1439 and sent the iPod into an infinite reboot loop. Updated iTunes, etc. Same issue. Google'd it, found this page, http://discussions.apple.com/thread/2609298?tstart=0 which helped somewhat. Followed the instructions, came up with these specs,

Retracts: 95

Reallocs: 0

Pending Sectors: 0

PowerOn Hours: 27

Starts/Stops: 6455

Temp: Current 33C

Temp: Min 0C

Temp: Max 63C

This error repeats every time I try to restore the ipod through iTunes.
Is the hard disk the issue? Or did something just get lost in translation while attempting to restore?
Thanks-M

Is the iPod still in an "infinite reboot loop"?  If not, try to put iPod into Disk Mode

Putting iPod into Disk Mode - Apple Support

When you connect it, if your computer has other USB devices connected, you may want to shut down (power off) and disconnect all other USB devices.  You can leave standard keyboard/mouse connected, if used.  Start up computer, run iTunes, and connect iPod to a direct USB port on computer by itself.  iTunes may prompt you to do a Restore with a message about "recovery."  Proceed with Restore...  Hopefully, with better results this time.

iPod switches in and out of Disk mode without issue, though it doesn't show anything other than "Do not disconnect" or "OK to disconnect".

Followed your directions. All other USB devices removed, fresh PC restart, start iTunes, plug in iPod, restore. Still unknown error 1439.

This is the Apple document with advice for that error

    If you see error 1415, 1417, 1418, 1428, 1429, 1430, 1436, or 1439 when restoring or updating an iPod in iTunes - Apple …

You have already done some of the suggestions.  The one about disabling security software may be relevant.

If it still does not work, the cause may be a faulty hard drive in iPod.  It may have worked "as is," but doing a Restore caused new data to be written to a portion of the hard drive's media that is damaged, causing the error.  One more "unofficial" thing you can try is to reformat the iPod's hard drive using Windows, like it's a USB external drive.  Use "FAT32" as the disk format.  If there is an option to do a "fast format," select to do a full format.  If that completes successfully, run iTunes.  The iPod's hard drive is completely empty (no onboard software), so you need to do a Restore using iTunes.  Hopefully, it will complete successfully this time.

The Windows full format options given were exFAT (default) and _. No FAT32 option available. Followed your directions using exFAT, still the same error, 1439. Are there any other options? Would bringing it to an Apple store help?

You can certainly make an appointment with an Apple Store Genius Bar (tech support staff) if there is a conveniently located store.

You should take your USB docking cable.  If your PC is a laptop, you may want to take it along too.

Your stats look OK, though max temp. isn't supposed to get above 50℃.

You could try the DFU method listed in Re: Corrupt iPod classic.

Otherwise if you have a Mac owning friend they may be able to successfully restore the device, after which iTunes for Windows may be able to restore if for use with Windows.
