Q: mirror two mac computers

Hi,

During the day, I mainly use the MacBook as I travel between sites, but in the evenings I prefer the bigger screen of my iMac to complete my work. The cloud offers great things but I do not want to put everything out there. What I would like to do is to have both machine configured the same way and for the machines to sync themselves (for example during dinner time), sort of continuously replicated in some way. This way, when I get to work on the iMac, it has the latest files that I need and the family can use the laptop for their homework or other things.

I have a MacBook and an iMac. The family uses both machines. Both machines have the same size HD and connect to the same wi-fi network. Both have the same accounts (me, the wife and kids) and the same software. I have a copy of "Sync Folder Pro".

Thanks,

Marc

Put the family on the iMac, and get yourself a big LCD with connection and a keyboard for the MacBook.  A disk for Time Machine.   Maybe via one of the USB 3.0 docks that are available for the MacBook.  No data migrations and no chasing down the synchronization glitches, no computer contention, no remembering where the most recent copy of a file is located, no dependence on cloud storage, and no having the kids tangled up with the office files, or damaging the office computer or data.   Otherwise, you're shoveling files and directories around — and troubleshooting when that doesn't work right — and even Apple is seemingly getting away from doing that shuffling with the folks running OS X Server.
