Q: iPod 5th Gen (with Video) under 10.11 not mounting anymore?

Hi - I have a iPod 5th Gen (with Video). Since upgrading to 10.11 it won't mount at all - and can't be seen in iTunes. Im running 10.11.2 on a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013) - any ideas anyone?

iPod (5th generation), OS X El Capitan (10.11.2)

When you connect the iPod, watch the iPod's screen.  Does it say "Do not disconnect" or otherwise acknowledge the connection?  Or does it only show the battery charging symbol?  Or does it not react at all?

It seems to have a power connection, but not a data connection.  The 30-pin dock connector has separate "pins" for power and data; the ones for data may not be connecting properly.  To rule out a faulty USB docking cable, try a different cable if possible (the newest one you have).

You can also try shutting down (powering off) the MacBook.  If you have other USB devices connected, disconnect them all.  Do this to Reset the iPod

Learn how to reset your iPod - Apple Support

Start up the MacBook, run iTunes, and connect iPod to a direct USB port on MacBook by itself.  Again note if iPod's screen indicates a connection (even if the iPod does not appear in iTunes or on the Mac).  If that does not help (still no response except for battery charging), try putting the iPod into Disk Mode

Putting iPod into Disk Mode - Apple Support

Then, connect it the same way again.  If iTunes picks it up, it may prompt you to do a Restore, with a message about "recovery."  If you are OK with erasing the iPod, tell iTunes to proceed.

Thanks - I have unfortunately already tried all of these things

    ie

    cord no difference

reset makes no difference to the problem either

I have put it in disk mode but it sits there saying that on the screen and still not connecting

Im assuming that it is still compatible with my OS?

    Cheers  Keith

i have a 5th gen iPod, and it works with the latest OS X and iTunes.  It's screen says "Do not disconnect" very quickly after connecting, and it appears in iTunes.

Unfortunately, your iPod does not seem to be making a data connection.  It reacts to being connected to computer like its connecting to a USB power adapter.  Have you confirmed the USB ports on the MacBook are working properly, by connecting something else to it, like a USB flash drive or another Apple device, preferably something that makes a data storage connection?
