Q: Why did Touch ID stop working to approve family share apps?

Up until 30 minutes ago when a family member want to download an app, it ask for me to approve and enter my fingerprint (Touch ID).  Now something happened and it is asking for me to enter my password.  I don't want to do this on my iPhone every time one of my kids wants a game or app, i need touch ID to work.  I check and it was turned off for app store purchases, so I turned it back on.  If I download an app, my touch ID works.  But I try to approve one of my kids apps and it asks for my password.  How to i get Touch ID back for approving my kids family share app purchases?

Thanks, Dean.

I'm not sure about emailing Phil Schiller - I never tried.
But last issue I had, also discussed on this forum, was resolved when many of us filed a bug report.

    It's definitely a bug.
If you have multiple approvers (like two parents), then you can confirm that the issue only occurs if you *cancel* the Touch ID approval even just once for one of the approver. From that point forward, it will only asks you for a password, never Touch ID anymore. But for the other approver, Touch ID still works. So it's a bug that we should all report so it would get some weight.

You must go to the following link: Contact Apple Support

Select iPhone, then iTunes/App store, then "This is not listed", then select email or chat/phone and enter "Touch ID no longer prompted to approve family purchase".
They might tell you to reset all settings and/or restore the device but none of that works (I already tried).
Then they will escalate to Level 2 support as a bug. If we all do this, then it'll get fixed in the next iOS update.

    Please pass the word around.

Someone earlier on this thread said apple confirmed it was a change not a bug.

Look again on Page 3 of the thread.
Dec 10, a user said it worked on the iPad and not the iPhone
Dec 25, another said it worked for his wife and not for him.

In my case, it worked fine until I hit "Cancel" and now it no longer prompts me.
So it is not a change but a bug - the senior Apple Advisor I had on the phone (and another via chat) confirmed that it *should* work.

Wanted to add to the list of unhappy customers. This feature stopped working for me about a week ago. Needs to be fixed.

Add me to the list please. This is a major pain point and not like Apple.

It is a known bug that will be corrected in the next software update. So says the boss .

Please switch the functionality on to approve purchases made on a family account via Touch ID. This is a no-brainer Apple. For a company that strives for elegant solutions to everyday issues, you're definitely slow on the uptake.

This is one of the reasons I followed my kids back to Apple products, the seamless management and monitoring of the apps they are using was fantastic. However this bug or feature is horrible. It simply makes no since that I have to enter my password constantly when I can approve my own with touch. More infuriating is Apples complete lack of acknowledgment. Its seems time to teach my chlidren (and there friends) you don't need iMessage for group messages and move on from Apple. Apple has lost it's mojo and I can assure you it no longer "just works".

    HI

You are wrong about the Apple mantra of " Just Works " I think it's very apt as their products do work but only just !

ive been waiting for this Touch ID problem to be fixed for months , I've reported it as a problem in every recent iPhone software beta and they still haven't fixed it !
