Q: Backing up and restoring with MacPro and Pegasus using Time Machine

Hello

I have several mac mini along with Mac Pro.  I have external Pegasus 12 TB and  two 4 TB external hard drives.

Im trying to back up all the servers to these storage unit.

I can see them in each servers window as being selectable but I get an error of OSSTATUS error 2

It has been suggested I hook up all backup drives behind the time machine but it hasn't been that reliable.

Do you have a suggestion of how to back up each server to the Pegasus 12 TB and the external two 4 TB drives?

I look forward to hearing your thoughts

Joe

From a given computer, you can back up all locally-attached drives to that computer's Time Machine Backup Drive.

The Time Machine Backup Drive for a particular computer can be a locally-attached drive, a drive attached to a "Tall" Time Capsule, or a Network Drive "shared" by another Mac on your Network. The Time Machine Backup drive can NOT be a NAS drive, because Restore from such drives is completely unreliable.

The space required for trouble-free operation of Time Machine is at least twice as large as the amount to be backed up, and 2.5 to 3 times as large is recommended.

    THanks

you are 100% correct im your answer it took me about four hours to try each scenario out

im using shared drives NAS with rhe time machine backup from each server

ANother solution could also be erase as a fresh install them migrate from the NAS the old data from thst time machine

    THank you !
