Q: Music Memo not working.

Music Memo reports every attempted recording as "Too Quiet," although it does make the (quiet) recordings. Is there a way to set levels? Also, I don't see any way to access any accompaniment parts, which I guess are supposed to be bass and drums.

You need to get closer to what you are recording. There seems to be no way to set the record level.

Also, I don't see any way to access any accompaniment parts, which I guess are supposed to be bass and drums.

You will see them, when you open the "Details" for your recording.  You first have to play your song, then Music Memo will analyze your song, recognize the chords, and then create the accompaniment.

To open the Details, open your memo library by clicking the icon with the drawer.

Now tap some blank space in your recording, not the title. It will open the details, where you can configure the drums and the bass.

Have a look at this user tip for a screenshot of the details view:   Export your Music Memo to GarageBand

Thanks, though not totally solved. I set the iPad on the flat of the folded music stand on my open grand piano, very near the strings. I also shouted some of my bad singing close up. Both were "Too Quiet." The app seems very hard of hearing.

I am seeing the same. And if I get too close it does not sound good because of the clipping. The parts recorded with "too quiet" sound better than the clipped parts.  You could try to connect an external microphone.

Hope Apple is reading this. Sounds like a fix and/or actual user guide is in order.

Have you tried flipping the iPad 180 degrees?  Meaning that perhaps the microphone of the iPad is pointing away from the source of the audio. On a phone the mic is at the bottom, but I have a feeling that on iPads it's at the top. Just a thought.

I have the two microphones from my brand new iPad mini 4 virtually shoved in the sound hole of my acoustic guitar and it's still coming through as "too quiet"... somethings not working here

I am having the same issue on my iPad 4, the audio is "too quiet" despite being up close to the built-in mic.

Thanks for the link to Apple feedback. I just sent this, complete with the

typos which I just noticed, including assuming that Leonie is a "he":

    ==================

There is a steadily growing number of complaints in the Support Community group for Music Memo that the app reports all input, no matter how closely mixed as "Too Quiet." One user reported that when he somehow recorded sufficiently loud input, it was useless with clipping.

This fatal flaw is reported by owners of iPhones as well as iPads, so it seems to be a device-independents issue with the app itself.

    Help!

I noticed that If I completely reset the iPad (Settings>General>Reset>Erase all Content and Settings) and reinstall the app then it seems to record correctly. Maybe something related to mic input gain got stuck in an iOS update?

Huh. Updating the system just broke the app for me. It was working on IOS 9.2, but then I updated it a couple days ago, and now its giving me the too quiet error.

    Sorry.

Is anyone from Apple reading any of this? I went through the process to query them here

http://apple.com/feedback per the post above from stevejobsfan0123 but never heard or saw anything here.

    iOS 9.2.1 still working here.
