Q: Update of iMac software affect scanner?
I have a 2008 iMac and a relatively new 3500 series Canon printer/scanner. After a recent update of my software, I noticed the scanner quit working. The format looks different also. The printer works fine still; only problem seems to be with the scanning portion. I get an error message. Could it be the software update?

Hi, Judi.
Thanks for the question! I understand that you are unable to scan, the scanning format is incorrect and you receive an error. While printing works, I would still like to go through the troubleshooting steps in the article below as they will also apply to issues with scanning.
If you have some other printing issue
These steps may resolve printing issues that have no other clear cause:
- Open the Printers & Scanners pane of System Preferences, then select your printer and click the minus sign (-) to remove the printer from the list.
- Follow the steps in the previous section to add your printer.
- If the issue persists, reset the printing system, then follow the steps in the previous section once more.
If the issue remains unresolved, take these final steps to move aside any currently installed printer drivers:
- Reset the printing system again.
- Rename the folder at /Library/Printers:
- From the Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder. Then type
/Libraryand click Go.- Click once on the Printer folder to select it, then press Return to begin renaming the folder. Type
Printers-old, then press Return to save the new name.- Follow the steps in the previous section once more.
