YouTube videos won't load on my newer 4th Gen 4 Apple TV, but they will load on my older Gen 4. Has anyone else suffered this problem? It just started this evening. Both units work with all the other apps. YouTube is such a pill. more

Thanks for the response.

Jan 21, 2016 11:11 AM in response to micoziby Russell Madden,Delete or hide apps- Highlight the app that you want to delete or hide.
- On Siri Remote or Apple TV Remote, hold down the Touch surface until the app starts to jiggle. On other remotes, hold down Select.
- Press the Play/Pause button. ...
- Select Delete or Hide This Item.
Arrange and hide apps on your Apple TV - Apple Support
https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT200126AppleThen go to App app; download YouTube app; open the app.
Hope this helps.Another possibility I did not try is to sign out of YouTube; try to sign in and get the authorization code; enter code on other device; authorize Apple TV.If I remember correctly, that fixed an earlier problem. But if not, the delete/reinstall worked for me. -

Jan 22, 2016 11:29 AM in response to Russell Maddenby bobngb,Thanks for the advice, Russell. Unfortunately, hiding the app didn't do anything for me; neither did signing out and signing in.
Apparently, the YouTube app on my Apple TV had developed a glitch that wouldn't respond to hiding, signing out and in, nor to rebooting the device.
So I simply used the Restore option in the General menu in Settings. That resets the Apple TV unit to factory defaults, and it also updates all of the software at the same time. I had to run through the set-up process again, but that doesn't take too long, and the good news is that the YouTube app is working once again.
Thanks again for the advice, and for anyone else out there with this problem, be aware of the Restore function. It takes a little time to set the unit back up after you use the Restore option, but it's almost guaranteed to take care of any glitches that your device might develop.

Jan 22, 2016 11:42 AM in response to bobngbby Russell Madden,Glad you got it working.
But you should have deleted the app entirely then re-downloaded it; not just hidden it. An option to consider, anyway, if something like this happens again; save you some time as opposed to a full reset.
But good you're back to working order.

Jan 22, 2016 12:26 PM in response to Winston Churchillby Russell Madden,Thanks.
I'd been to the YouTube settings before, of course, but hadn't noticed the cookies option. For some odd reason, I thought there was some confusion and you were referring to cookies in Safari. But, of course, I was the one confused…
I think the key issue is that deleting cookies and deleting the app both require re-registering the AppleTV w/ YouTube, and that's what restores functionality.
Your way is obviously faster than deleting or restoring.
Again, thanks for the tip.

Jan 22, 2016 12:39 PM in response to Russell Maddenby bobngb,Good point, but I couldn't delete the app. I'm running a couple 3rd Gen Apple TV units, not 4th, so I don't think the apps can be deleted. My bad. I know I had listed my device as a 4th Gen, but I wrote the original post in a hurry and didn't think.
I'm not sure how to delete individual apps on a 3rd Gen Apple TV, or if it's even possible. The delete option doesn't come up when I select the app either on the Main Menu screen, or from the Main Menu options within the settings.
And I did clear the cookies from within the YouTube settings menu.
Believe me, I tried every option I could think of before I went for the nuclear--Restore--option.
I do appreciate all of the suggestions.

Jan 22, 2016 12:46 PM in response to bobngbby bobngb,One more question, since I do have the ear of some knowledgeable Apple TV users, what do you think of the new Gen 4 device?
I like the notion of downloading apps as needed, and I like the idea of the Siri remote, but I'm concerned about the lack of an optical audio output for my system.
My actual television is quite a few years old, but it's got a great picture, but older HDMI software. I'm afraid that the HDMI-only output to my TV won't allow my older set to process the Dolby 5.1 audio program and then pass it along to my system via the television's optical output. And what's the use of a home theatre set-up if you cannot access the surround channels?
Otherwise, the new Apple TV looks very nice. Does the remote work well for you? The vocal commands? I'm ready to buy one of these devices, but I'm not quite ready to buy a new television to accommodate a new device.
Thanks for the info.
