    Somehow I doubt it.

I have found, however, that if I enter events on my iPhone or iPad, this doesn't happen.

Today I had several things to add while I was working on my desktop, and every &)$*^ one of them took 3 or 4 tries to stick.

How do we get the programmers to notice?????

Hi   I've got the same problem but found a work around but not a permanent fix.  I enter the event, as it came up in my default calendar which is Blue (Home), and after completing the event, notes in the event, etc., I exit it (Return) and then I go back into the event (as if to edit) OR right click to change it a different calendar i.e. Red (Work) and it does NOT remove my typing or change it back to "New Event".

Many of us have found "workarounds" that seem to work for a little while. Let us know if this continues to work for you.

I assume that you mean that you click on the event very quickly, before it reverts to "new event."

This work around has worked consistently for many months.  I use the default Calendar and then I execute the Edit immediately after completion of entering the Event (including Attachments, Notes, etc).  I immediately do a right click to edit the Event to change to the correct Calendar.  My husband also does this and it works for him.  He was having far more problems then me because he has many more Calendars.  It's not a fix but it's works for us and our data has not disappeared.  I hope it works for others as well.

I was very hopeful, and this worked the first time I tried it, but just now it didn't!

How the heck do we get the attention of someone who can get this fixed?

That's what I've been doing for months (copy /paste). Items entered to the default calendar seem to work properly. Not being able to use the drop-down to select a different calendar event is a pain. Especially since I continually add and change work events from different employers (different calendar with different color) on a daily/weekly basis.

EDIT: The hierarchy of the responses is bizarre in this forum as this comes at the end of all responses instead of directly under the post I'm replying to.

Changing the default calendar each time is also almost easier than going through the above procedure. An annoying process to a "bug"(?) either way.

What I have found is that I can enter a new calendar entry and it will be fine AS LONG AS I don't change the event type/color.  Then I click outside the event and it seems to stay filled in.  Then if I click the event a second time, and change the event type/color, it seems to work.  I just can't enter an event and change the event type in one step, or it reverts to New Event.  It is totally a pain that they haven't fixed this, but the workaround seems to always work for me.  I just have to remember to do it in 2 steps.

I now see this is the same workaround as posted by V-NC.  Anyway, it's been working for me for months.

I finally bit the bullet and upgraded to El Capitan. That was not without considerable difficulty, but it's working now.

I have only had this occur ONCE since then, but once is too much!

The same problem in my case:

Updating to El Capitan did not help. Event input is lost and the item "jumps" back to New Event.

It happens not each time, but for me quite often - also with El Capitan.

There seems to be a correlation with changing the calendar (color of the event) when creating a New Event, i.e. changing away from the default Calendar for new events may somehow trigger the problem.

Only on Macs, this never happened on my iPhone.

    Thanks, Dewdman42!

That was the easiest solution, and it has worked!

    Preferences/accounts/refresh calendars: 'every minute'

(I knew it should be more simple than backing up and reinstalling, etc)

Let's ask Apple to make this the DEFAULT setting, especially when iCloud is enabled.
