Q: Disable iCloud for users on OS X

We have some MacBooks on a school that the pupils can use. In that context i'm interested to know if it's possible to disable iCloud for the local users so they aren't allowed to assosiate their appleid with the computer?

I've tried to look after the possibility in parental controls but haven't find the option.

MacBook Air, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

You can remove it from System Preferences with these steps.

    • Open System Preferences / iCloud and Sign out of any iCloud account that is currently signed in
    • Open Finder and navigate to /System/Library/PreferencePanes
    • Copy iCloudPref.prefPane somewhere where you can get to it in the future to put it back
    • Move iCloudPref.prefPane to Trash and empty Trash
    • Open System Preferences and you will notice the iCloud preference is not in the list

We have had some problems with users who locked the MacBooks with the Find My Mac service. Would this option be disabled if i follow your steps?

The iCloud preference won't even show up in System Preferences. So, your students wouldn't even have the ability to launch iCloud preferences to sign into iCloud. They could still sign in to the Web based iCloud via Safari but Find My Phone in Web based iCloud is not the same as Find My Mac in OS X iCloud preferences. Find My Phone just shows a map of where Macs, iPads and Phones are located. Find My Mac would have to be enabled and that's only enabled via iCloud preferences on the Mac.
