Q: Why did Touch ID stop working to approve family share apps?

Up until 30 minutes ago when a family member want to download an app, it ask for me to approve and enter my fingerprint (Touch ID).  Now something happened and it is asking for me to enter my password.  I don't want to do this on my iPhone every time one of my kids wants a game or app, i need touch ID to work.  I check and it was turned off for app store purchases, so I turned it back on.  If I download an app, my touch ID works.  But I try to approve one of my kids apps and it asks for my password.  How to i get Touch ID back for approving my kids family share app purchases?

Thanks, Dean.

@Allan Did Touch ID work previously and stop? Initially I got the same message and it worked fine for about 2 weeks. This was on 9.0.1 and despite updates, resets, and even a new device it has not started working again. If it suddenly started working on the beta I suppose there may be hope the update will correct the issue.

Awesome, thanks for the info, there is indeed hope. I can't install the beta but at least I know it's in the works.  It's ashame Apple didn't tell me this along the way it would have alleviated lots of frustration.  I never even got them to aknowledge an issue.

It's a public beta if you want to risk it (pretty stable for me)

Just an FYI, that same message about enabling TouchID popped up for me and I was running 9.2.0.  I just now upgraded to 9.2.1 after I enabled it so we will see if it works.

    Awesome...

Software update 9.2.1 does the trick...

FIngerprint now works again for family sharing approval!

    Thank you Apple!

Running 9.2.1 and just used fingerprint approval for one of the kid's requests a few minutes!  Glad it's working again!

TouchID is back for approving family purchases. My kid just requested an app from his iPad and I was able to approve with TouchID. So glad this has been a restored feature.  I called apple support around the holidays to complain and request the feature be restored, at the time the tech said he had fielded multiple requests asking the same.

This is intended as a general reply to pretty much everyone that's posted here.

First off, while I'm sympathetic to your concerns on the issue, please remember the following:

    1) This is a user-to-user technical support forum.  Apple does not participate in these forums, and makes that quite clear in the terms & condition that you agreed to when signing up for this forum.  Complaining that Apple has not responded in this forum only shows that you failed to read and/or understand those terms.

    2) Apple provides the Feedback Channel at www.apple.com/feedback as a location for you to 'voice your opinion' or 'add +1' and so on.  Doing so here is a waste of your time & effort, because Apple isn't coming along to check to see how many people report an issue here.  That's what the Feedback Channel and AppleCare Support is for.

    3) Discussing details of an iOS Beta (even a public one) is not allowed on this forum.  Please do not do so in the future.  It's in the terms & conditions as well as the beta release agreement.

Speaking of one wasting his time posting something...

I'm also pretty sure you're the only one who has ever read the terms and conditions.  So clearly you have too much time on your hands.

And posting on here makes people feel good that they are not the only ones with the issue.  Its an outlet to vent frustration.
