Q: Easy notice to know which store accepts Apple Pay

I like to try Apply Pay but seems no easy way to know which store accepts it. I asked a few times at different stores, not noticing any Apple Pay signs, and they said they do not use it.  I found an app that shows the stores that accept Apple Pay but just not so convenient to go through several steps to find the store.  Wish Apple will have an update to send out auto Notice on iPhone or Apple Watch once inside or near store(s) that accepts Apple Pay. Like with Starbuck, once you are near a Starbuck store, it sends out a message to iPhone.

iPhone 6, iOS 9.2

    Hi

You can use Apple Pay to pay in stores that accept contactless payments.

Look for one of the following symbols at checkout - or in the Maps app on your iPhone:

Some stores may show one of the symbols on their card readers and point of sale terminals, but might not currently be set up to accept Apple Pay and/or other contactless payments. In the US, this presently includes 7-Eleven, Home Depot, Jack in the Box and CVS.

A list of stores that accept Apple Pay in the US is also available here:

If you would like Apple to consider adding a new feature for advising when Apple Pay can be used, you can suggest that here:

Unlike Visa / Mastercard, etc., Apple Pay just does not have a very visible sign in stores.  I will look more carefully next time, but if the sign just shows up at the small screen of card readers, people can miss it entirely.  I read Apple Pay has so many stores signed up, but my experience to try to find one is poor.

    Thanks for the Feedback page.

Note that Apple pay is only available in the U.S, U.K, Australia, and Canada (Amex only) at this time.

If you are not within any of those countries. Apple Pay will not be usable.

Thanks, but the idea is not to have to remember a list, especially a big list. Who can do that?  I do not know how popular Apple Pay is now. But if Apple is serious to make Apple Pay popular, I think the one best way is to update IOS to send out a notice whenever customers are in a store that accepts Apple Pay.  Starbuck does that. Apple should.

The Starbucks app will notify you if you have previously added that specific store as a favorite. It doesn't simply show you when you get near any Starbucks.

Don't think so. I do not add any stores to fav.  My iPhone will receive a notice from Starbuck whenever I am closed to a store. It may be just a small advertisement that I am near Starbuck, but at least I am aware of it. Most likely its because I have Starbuck app and have Notification turn on in my iPhone.

Two sides to that coin - Starbucks is a specific store

I would be irritated if I was "reminded" of a store accepting  Pay every single time whether I had business there or not

I use that list about twice a month - and have a small personal list in Notes

For the most part I only use it at around 8-9 places

I guess rather than getting frustrated with Apply Pay, and before any improvements come, remembering a small list of often use stores would be the thing to do.  Thanks.

To clarify: within stores, look for either the contactless symbol or the Apple Pay symbol or both. One symbol without the other will suffice, subject to potential exceptions as described in my original reply.

    Okay.

There seems to be 2 options. One in the Starbucks application will show you when you are near a Starbucks store.
Apple Wallet will pop up the Starbucks card when you are near your favorites.
