Q: Anyone know how to edit multiple items in 12.3?

Just moved over to a MAC from a PC and I cannot figure out how to change the media kind from HOME MOVIE to MOVIE or TV SHOW.  I can change a file one at a time, but when i try to edit multiple items, nothing happens.  Is there a way to fix this issue?

Thanks

Do you know how to select more than one item at the same time on an item list in iTunes?  Show the library using the view for a plain list with columns.  For your movies library, that would be the Movie List view.

To select multiple items that are together on the list, select first item, hold down Shift key, and select last item.  The two items you clicked and all items between them are selected at the same time.  Right-click selection and Get Info.

To select multiple items that are not together on the list, hold down Option and Command keys, and click the items you want selected.  All clicked items remain selected.  To unselect an item, (with the two keys held down) click a selected item.  Right-click selection and Get Info.

You can use those two methods consecutively.  For example, select songs listed together, plus other separate songs. Or select songs listed together, and unselect one of them.

Thank you for the reply.  Its taken a bit of learning as I move from PC to Mac.  I am able to select multiple items and when i click on GET INFO, i do get the warning asking me if i want to edit multiple items.  Its when i try to change the media kind under OPTIONS.  I change from Home Movies to TV show or Movies, nothing happens.  The change in Media Kind will take if i only select one file, but i'm hoping to avoid doing it this way.  My son has a great deal of videos that he makes for YouTube and we keep them separate our home movies.  I thought maybe it was a corruption with ITunes, so I uninstalled (which was tricky with my OS) iTunes and then re-installed, but i still experience the same issue of only being able to change one media file at a time.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

I change from Home Movies to TV show or Movies, nothing happens.

Are you saying that you cannot change the Media Kind setting in the Info window, OR that you can change it there (in multi-item Info window) and click OK, but when you check one of those items again (by doing a Get Info on it), its Media Kind is back to being Home Movie?

    Thanks for your continued support

I can change it.  select multiple files, choose, GET INFO, get the little warning about editing multiple items.  I click on the tab OPTIONS, click on the Media Kind box to reveal my choices.  I change the choice from Home Movies to TV Show and i get a little green arrow confirming my switch and i click OK.  Window closes, but no action is taken.  the media files do not disappear and move under TV Show.  I open it again and got back to Media Kind and its back to being a Home Movie.

I am successful if i change only one media file.

I'm using Itunes 12.3 on a macbook pro

That's odd...  Try some tests.  Change two items that were already changed to TV Show (one at a time), back to Home Movie (one at a time).  Select those two items that are now Home Movie.  Do a Get Info on selection, and change Media Kind to TV Show.  Does that work any better?  This is to see if selecting a minimal number of items that you know can be changed (one at a time) can be changed using a multi-item Info window.

Are you able to change Media Kind in a multi-item Info window if the media type is not videos?  For example, change a few songs selected together from Music to Audiobook.

I played around with it for a while and i can change multiple music files to any other media kind, like podcast or audiobook with no issues.  I move a few home videos, one at a time, over to TV shows but i cannot move them back to any other media kind if i try to edit multiple items.  seems i can move dozens and dozens of music files in a multiple edit but i am limited to moving home movies, movies and tv shows to one file at at time.  I am stumped as to what it could be.

    Thanks

    Hi Seroc99,

I just found your question because I was having the same problem. Turns out the original files were set to "read only" under properties, changing this meant the changes made to the media kind on multiple items in iTunes actually stuck.

Hope this helps if you're still struggling along converting one at a time.
