Q: files lose permissions

Hello!

I'm having a weird issue since installed El Capitan.

It doesn't always happen, but now it seems to be happening more frequently.

My files will, for no reason, suddenly say "you can't open this file because you don't have the proper permissions" (paraphrased).

It happens to jpg, pdf, png, and seemingly every file type. Usually they are on my desktop. One time I was also trying to save a new file to the desktop with Pages, and it said the same thing. Restarting the Pages program didn't help. What I have to do is restart my computer and it seems to solve it, but I don't want to have to keep restarting. I'm not sure why this is happening, and when I look at the permissions, they are always fine. I am authorized even though the message says I'm not and it won't open/save the files.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks!

Kristin

Files located in /Library/LaunchAgents, /Library/LaunchDaemons, /Library/Extensions, /Library/StartupItems, and Login Items do not load when booting to safe mode.  If an issue is not present in safe mode then this is a likely place to start.  If you cannot confirm that the issue is not present in safe mode then it may not be caused by one of these items.

Well, I haven't solved the problem yet, but doing a command of:

    killall Finder

at the command line seems to solve the issue temporarily.

    It seems to reset everything.

I still don't know why this is going on though. At least I don't have to restart every time. I can just kill it in the terminal app.

I just realized this might be an issue with Preview.

I did have an issue once with Pages, but I haven't really used Pages since.

All this time I've mostly been trying to open things with Preview and getting the error message.

Then I found this link, but it doesn't really offer any solutions:

Is there an app I can use instead of preview? How do I make some other program my default program?
