Q: Battery and Storage

When my battery gets under 9% it runs slower, but thats normal. Lately, it will start running slow but say its on 50% (example). I try plugging it in and it says its really on 5%. So sometimes it will say its on a high percentage but its really dying.

Also, with my storage, I have over 80GB of 'other'. I've tried so many things to get rid of it. I've tried a few applications, I've watched videos. I'm stuck. I only have like 2GB of free space now because that 'other' is taking up most of it!

Please Help!

2GB is too little free space. Delete some files or move files to an external drive. This may help you understand "other". OS X: What is "other" space in About This Mac? - Apple Support

We don't know what version of the Mac OS you have but, in some and depending on how you check for space, there is a reporting error about free space until the Spotlight database is reindexed. If you are checking free space via "About this Mac" you can encounter the bug. To be sure you are seeing a true picture, highlight your hard drive icon by single-clicking it and then do the key combo command i. That will display this window:

Do the lines I've highlighted in red show more "Available" space?

As for the battery, please do this: inside your Applications folder is a Utilities folder. Inside that find either "System Information" or "System Profier" (the name depends on the Mac OSX version) and launch it. When its window is showing, look in the left-hand contents pane for "Power" and click it. The main pane will change to look something like this--the red rectangle is something I added to the image for emphasis:

On your computer, highlight the lines I've outlined in red, then copy and paste that information into a reply to this thread. That will give us an idea of your battery's actual condition.

    Try a SMC reset:

    Regarding other, please read this:

You do not want to get rid of all of it.

Download from the Internet OmniDiskSweeper and Grand Perspective (both free) and open them. They will show all of your files and the respective sizes. Transfer to an external HDD the files you do not want on your Mac or delete them.

Do not forget to empty trash. Only then is space allocated for additional data.

    Ciao.

I am guessing, but are you even talking about a Mac? Try this for us...

If this issue is new, tell us what immediately preceded its onset - add software, upgrade or update? New equipment?
