Q: Getting error on boot about another device using my IP address

The past 2 weeks I have been getting this error message when I boot my Power Mac, "Another device on the network is using your computer's IP address."  When I go to the Network window in System Preferences the Ethernet says it is connected but all of the DCHP info is empty.  I've never gotten this message before and even though I can use this computer using wifi I prefer the hardwire connection.  How can I rectify this situation?

Thanks!

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.3)

This a CenturyLink home network.  Don't know if their router does but I doubt it.  I've never had this issue until just a few days ago.

Does it still have this problem when no other devices are online & Airport/Wifi is turned off?

And the setting in Network for Ethernet is set to Using DHCP, not Manually?

How many internet boxes do you have?

Do you have your own router or do you just have the century link box?

What is the model number of all this stuff?

Did you do any configuration on the centurylink box?

You could set a static ip address on you ethernet connector as a work-around.

The CenturyLink modem and an Apple Airport box.  I finally called CenturyLink and ended up that the Airport and my MacPro were fighting over the same address.  Why?  I have no idea.  I set the MacPro with a static IP and now there are no more squabbles.  The MacPro gets rebooted daily and the Airport only gets rebooted if there is a problem.  I had already tried power cycling both the Airport and the CenturyLink modem but the MacPro kept still fighting for the same IP address the Airport was using.  I've never had this problem before and none of the hardware involved has changed in probably a year.  Did wonder if it might have anything to do with El Cap as it started about the same time I upgraded my OS on the MacPro.  I work doing tech support in a high school and I have seen the exact same boot error show up on a number of our iPads since we upgraded the iOS on those devices.

    Thanks,
