Q: New Retina MacBooks not compatible with Virgin Media Superb 2

Hey everyone,

Anyone else noticed that the Retina MacBook don't seem to work properly if you are on Virgin Media superhub 2.

£1100 I spent on this notebook and I can't browse the internet for more than 60 seconds without a 5 minute long drop out.

Have consulted the virgin media forums, changed a couple of settings but the MacBook works EVERYWHERE else (work, friends houses, families houses, Starbucks).

Baffling.

Can't tell if it's a El Capitan issues as my iMac seems to work and it's on Mavericks.

I'm baffled, upset and very annoyed.

Skyping is IMPOSSIBLE due to the disconnect after around a minute even though the WiFi signal bar shows as full throughout.

    Hey,

I too have the new MacBook (retina, 12-inch, Early 2015) and I'm having the same problems as does a friend of mine with the same Mac.

Internet just drops every now and again and I either have to wait a few minutes (which feels like forever) or disconnect and reconnect and it happens all the time. No matter where I am in terms of distance from router it happens everytime. I also have Virgin with Fibre Optic, however it drops connection at work who have BT and at a friends who has Sky, so not sure it's a Virgin issue. My iMac retina runs perfectly on my Virgin internet.

They had a similar issue with the MacBook Air's when they came out and you just returned it to Apple they either fixed it or gave you a new one so they could send your faulty one off for testing.

Let me know if you figure it out. I think I'm going to just book a Mac appointment.

I sorted this issue actually by doing the following:

Open finder > Go > Computer > Mac HD > Library > preferences > SystemConfiguration

Make a back up of those files and then delete them all and reboot the mac.

Let me know if this helps you too!

I have had this problem with a new MBP that I got in November 2015. I am on with Virgin broadband and haven't had any problems with it before I got this computer. One of my housemates has just got a new MBP and has had similar problems. Are Mac to anyone doing anything about this problem?

    Many thanks

Same problem with my Macbook Air 2013 and new retina Macbook 12"

The problem has existed for at lest a year, not sure if either company is doing anything about it.

    Hi

I just logged in to say that this tip has helped! I was having a super speedy connection for approximately 1 minute with a few minutes drop out in between.

I did what you advised and deleted those preferences, rebooted and so far (been 30 minutes) without a single problem, I hope this advise helps others too as I was getting very frustrated having bought a brand new mac, having fibre optic and getting a worse connection that I did with 56k back in the day!

    Thanks again
