Q: Changing iCloud primary email from @me.com to @icloud.com

Hello all,

Just setup my new Mac Air from an older MacPro. The new software in this unit allowed me to set up using my iCloud account. So i did using my @icloud.com account since it is current. Well it gives me messages saying i won't be able to use all functions sine it is not my primary account. I logged into the iCloud web server and found my old @me.com account is Primary. I tried googling and everything i can imagine to find out how to swap this. I logged out all my devices, but still can't change @iCloud to primary. I know that the @me.com Account became the iCloud.com account but I'm logging in to all my devices with the new iCloud.com address since apple told me @me.com was going away. So i don't think i should log into my machines using an old unused address. How can i swap this PLEASE!!

MacBook Air, OS X El Capitan (10.11.3)

You can't swap them.  Perhaps this might explain it further -- iCloud: About your @icloud.com, @me.com, and @mac.com email addresses - Apple Support

Just log in with the @me.com address, it will continue to work. My login is an @mac.com address and that works perfectly well (and still receives email). You can't create new @mac.com and @me.com addresses but existing ones will continue to work.

Zinacef, I understood that, i had found that when i first started the search for this solution. But it technically did not help me swap the accounts. Roger, what you posted is what I'm trying to avoid. All my logins i want to use the one apple swapped me to, NOT the old one they said no longer "used or phased out". But with that being said, maybe one of you can answer me this.

If i continue to use my @icloud.com to log into all my machines and devices, when it says "its not primary, won't have all the functions" is this false since @icloud.com is the same as my old @me.com and just ignore the warning? If it is then I'm ok with that if they are EXACTLY the same just new @icloud.com apple merged me to says "alias" next to it like @me.com says "primary".

Thats the only reason i wanted to swap.  So far i have not noticed any difference when i log into either one. I just check the box to not reply or send using the @me.com address.

    Thanks Y'all!

Well I've always that the @me.com and @icloud.com addresses are exactly the same and you can log in with either in the normal way. I don't understand why you are getting the error message you quote, nor why you were told that the @me.com address was dead - my @mac.com address works perfectly well. All I can suggest is logging in with the @icloud.com address and check whether everything works.

I'm assuming in all this that text before the @ in each case is the same - from what you initially said this seems to be the case.
