Q: iTunes 12.3.2 podcast not deleting after being played

I have iTunes 12.3.2 (64 bit). I have downloaded media files which I have marked as "podcast" in media kind, so they appear listed in my Podcast window. In the settings for that podcast I've marked "Delete Played Episodes" ON, but it doesn't work -- the podcasts remain days/weeks after they've been marked as played. It worked fine in iTunes 10, which I had until recently. How can I make iTunes do what it claims? Thanks.
