Q: iOS 9.2 iCloud backup still not fixed!!!

So I've been plagued with the Backup could not be completed problem and I've been waiting for Apple to release a fix and I was happy to see this problem mentioned as one of the bugs dealt with in iOS 9.2, BUT it was not actually fixed!

Now my phone is not backed up at all after all Apple geniuses advised that I delete older backups from iCould and try again, my MacBook storage is too small to carry my 128gb iPhone backup and now if my phone dies for some reason all my life is gone with it, well most of it!

Tried backing up my iPhone to external storage but Apple won't let you do that cause we are freaking slaves and not free to do what we want, so now I hope they would finally listen and address this issue that has been mentioned many times before!!!!

iPhone 6 Plus, iOS 9.2, 128 GB

This whole issue is a strange one and has been going in for years and happens  people at different times apparently. Looks like it will never be fixed at this rate.

I have tried every possible way on my 5s and i learned
    - do not buy more storage
    - do not try typical troubleshooting methods on daily bases (it wont work if it did not)
    - do not wast your time to find the solution anymore
    - wait for apple to resolve this issue on next ios
    - switch to android or windows phone to make sure that your data is safe
    believe me guys.

    Same for me.

    I tried it all.

It is clear to me that problem is that Apple ICloud sees a backup (9.2.1) that I deleted prior to upgrading to 9.3 and therefore new backups fail, trying to increment something no longer there (inspite of the icloud being marked as existing).

Something did not work in the last icloud backup under 9.2.1 and even if I deleted that (possibly in its content) Apple Icloud still believe it is there.

That is trying to build an incremental backup on top of a former corrupted one.

I have two iphones, both with beta 9.3

One synchs fines. The other stopped synching after Jan 14th.

The one not synching shows under Itunes Summary page that there is a backup dated Jan 14th. However, the backup does not exist and cannot be seen within Icloud.com or via Icloud app. It has been actually deleted....

There is no way to reload that old 9.2.1 Icloud backup, because it is no longer there (I have also tried and downgraded to 9.2.1, but a restore from that image obviously does not work because it does not exist, really).

The only way to fix this is that Apple understands that and allows for a brand new backup starting from 9.3 instead of trying to keep incremental from the last one on 9.2.1..

It should be a simple fix, if they get to understand what has happened (like I belied I do).

iCloud backups are not visible in icloud.com, and never have been. Nor with the iCloud app. The only way to see iCloud backups is to go to Settings/General/Storage & iCloud Usage, then tap Manage Storage under iCloud. Tap on the name of the device and it will display the latest backup date and size.

Within the Icloud App they are defenately visible. It is from there I deleted the culprit one, under storage/manage storage/backup (it is same the same logic as within the Iphone settings).

Problem is that I see the one of the iphone that works (an iphone 6).

I do not see the one of the other iphone (an iphone 6S), which does not work.

Well, still Itunes says (in the summary page) that there is a backup for the iphone 6S, dated Jan 14th.... Just that it is not there, really!

Re Icloud.com not showing backups, yes, yet it shows size and the size of the backup is more or less the sum of the two backups. Yet, one is a valid backup and I can see it in the icloud app and it behaves correctly with my iphone 6. The other backup is just there taking space, appearing as in existence in Itunes but not actually there under settings / storage etc within the iphone. So backup cannot be activated no longer / or backups always fails onto Iphones 6s, which says "Backup never completed"....or there is an error trying to acticate icloud backup, try later etc etc

Same Problem here for me in Germany, enabling icloud backup through itunes works but starting an icloud backup then brings up the error message "backup could not be completed". Called apple and they said they know the problem and we have to wait until it gets fixed...

    thanks apple -.-

    Pleased I'm not going mad.

I have this same problem and have tried the following to resolve:

    • signing out and back in to icloud
    • signing out of icloud, turning off the iphone, signing back in
    • deleting existing iphone back-up on icloud (so I now have no backups in icloud aside from my ipad, which continues to be fine)
    • signing out of icloud, forcing the phone off (as in holding home button and power button), signing back in
    • resetting network settings
    • backing up on my itunes, deleting and erasing all data on the phone, restoring itunes backup

All of the above were suggestions from the apple technician on the phone and none have worked. I'm now at a total loss as to what to try. I've tried to turn off certain apps to see if it is a faulty app causing the problem on back up but when I go to that screen via 'manage storage' it won't allow me to toggle any on or off - every time I try I just get an error message about being unable to do it and the option to try again.

Obviously being able to make an itunes backup is good as it means I'm no longer at risk of losing all my information (I smashed my screen yesterday for the first time ever, so thank god for itunes backup) but it is frustrating to be paying for 50GB of storage on icloud that I can't use.

If any one comes up with a solution please let me know, if I hear anything more via the call I currently have open I will also post.

I also have the exact same problem as you guys, using an iPhone 6 64GB.  I have been getting "The last backup could not be completed" and "Last backup: Never" issues now.  I pay for the 50GB iCloud plan, but with the backup bug I don't need it.

I do a full backup to iTunes on PC about once per week.  It shows my last iCloud backup was 10/15/15.  So I've had the iCloud backup failure for almost 90 days!

I am getting a weekly notification saying the phone hasn't been backed up to iCloud in X weeks, meaning the automatic wifi backup.  But there's nothing I can do about it.  I can only do a local iTunes PC backup.

I have tried all the basic reset tricks, deleting the backups from iCloud and so on, all with no effect.  I have not tried the full phone wipe reset based on poor feedback from these forums.

Currently using iOS 9.2.1, which changed nothing for me.  I await a software solution from Apple -- the safe backups was a major reason to use Apple, and now it's gone!

Same issue here. I tried everything.

I called apple care, the case is suposed to be in the engineers level as they couldn't find a solution.

    Let's see...

For the record, Iphone 6s Plus, from Spain

MIne worked fine till 9.2.1, then boom no backups since.

even a reset to blank fails to backup, looks like this is an icloud corruption problem.

It seems not enough people are experiencing this problem, or are not reporting it since Apple Status doesn't indicate any problems with iCloud backup.

Report it to Apple. If only a small number of iCloud customers ahve this problem (small number could be in the thousands) then this won't even be a blip on Apple's radar.
