Apple Music lets you upload your music to the cloud and access it that way on all devices that support it. But syncing physical files from a computer is still perfectly doable if you don't need the cloud access, and don't want to pay the subscription cost.
Where exactly are you getting stuck?

Jan 26, 2016 12:18 PM in response to maureen102by Dylan Neild,You don't need to buy Apple Music if you're just sharing your own files. You can buy iTunes Match (much cheaper). That'll let you match files to the iTunes store and share them between devices, uploading the extra files you have that aren't in the store.
Apple Music adds the ability to listen to tracks you don't own via subscription.
If you have both service, you get both services (uploading your own tracks + listening to the Apple Music service library).
